“It’s not worth it. Not anymore.”

“Nah, it ain’t.”

“Here, in Reirdon Falls, we wouldn’t have to do that.”

“I’ll get Sin on board. As soon as Priest is taken care of, we make the move here.”

I push off him and sit up ramrod straight. “Just like that? I bring up something this huge, something that will upturn both our lives, and you don’t even have to take a moment to think about it?”

He eases himself into a sitting position beside me and takes my hand, pressing it to his chest. Smiling, he says, “I told you already that I’ve thought about a future for us. Let’s face it, the second you came blasting back into my life, it was on the table. Back at the safehouse, I said I’ll be your homebase no matter what or where your work took you. Now, you offering up this, us working together, it’s way better than what I ever thought would be possible for us.”

I nod, getting it. “You figured you’d have to share me with my work.”

“Yeah, and that would’ve been fine. But it clearly ain’t fine with you no more.”

“Working together solves our major issues and it’s what I want, Cal.”

“Then that’s what we’ll do.”

“It’s happening,” I breathe, still trying to absorb it.

He wraps his arm around me and holds me to him. “It’s happening. About time, yeah?”

That has the both of us chuckling and losing ourselves to it for a while.

And then he eases back slightly and groans as he helps me to my feet with him. “We better get going. Don’t want Ax losing it by finding out what went down here at one of his houses. Might be a bit worse than that employee smoking up in another one of them.”

“It’s for the best. I need to put a few things in motion, given what we’ve just decided.”

“You need help?”

I give his hand a squeeze. “I’ll let you know if I do. It’s just a few calls for now—maybe a couple of threats as I call in some favors to speed up the process.”

“All right, kitten. You need me, I got you.”

I beam up at him. “I know you do.”

He always has. Just like I have with him.

We’ve always made a great team. We were just forced apart by circumstance back then.

Everything is different this time around.

We’re controlling our own fates now.

And nothing or no one is going to fuck with that ever again.

It’s our time now.
