I hang up quick.

Relief fills me. Sin will take care of him. A while back he started up a system to rehabilitate young guys caught up in the twisted ways of our world. He helps pull them out of it, severs their connections to the assholes using them, and sets them on legit career paths. It gives them a second chance before it’s too late.

More than the two of us ever had.

I sit up and go to grab the semi-automatic beside me.

I fumble with it because my hands are shaking. My heart’s pounding too. It’s a struggle to breathe easy. I can’t seem to calm the hell down.

Can’t get up on my feet neither. My body won’t cooperate.

I just need a couple of seconds.

Just tired. I ain’t a young man no more.

Just need some time to catch my breath.
