“This ain’t a discussion, Runner. Get gone.”

He hesitates for a moment, before he realizes there ain’t nothing he can say or do that’s gonna persuade me otherwise.

I’m unmovable.

“Ride safe, all right?”

“Always.”

He stops by the door and turns. “Ax needs you alive. You know that, right? You ain’t just an asset to him. You’re the father he never had. Don’t take that away from him. He’s had enough pain and loss. Don’t add to it.”

Fuck.

That cuts real deep. More than I want. More than I can allow right now. Or, ever.

It has me grinding out harshly, “Got it. Now go, kid.”

With one last disgruntled glare my way, he finally takes off out of the bar.

I wait until I hear his bike roaring out of the lot.

Then I stride back to the asshole on the ground.

He trembles as I crouch down in front of him.

“We ain’t done, motherfucker. You’re gonna tell me everything. Easy way, or the hard way don’t matter to me. Truth be told, I’m just itching for you to push me to make it the hard way.”
