A few seconds later, Grayson walks out of her room, leaving her alone. As soon as he leaves, her sobs begin. I’m torn between going to her and just leaving her alone. Obviously, I don’t think she’d want to see me right now so I just stand there in the bathroom and listen to her sob for a few minutes before I can’t take it anymore and leave.

I head downstairs to our home gym and find that Grayson is already there, busy punching away at the punching bag. Anger is rolling off him in waves and if I had to guess, I’d say he was imagining it was my face.

His back stiffens when he becomes aware of my presence, but he doesn’t stop punching the bag. I wrap my knuckles in tape and move over to the other punching bag that’s a few feet away from him, and I get started with my workout. We go for a while, not speaking, until I can’t take it anymore.

“Gray–” I start but he cuts me off before I can fully say his name.

“Just don’t. I don’t want to hear your fucked-up reasoning for why you do the shit you do!” he snaps at me.

“Do you want me to punch you again?” I ask.

“Go ahead if it’ll make you feel like less of a shithead!” he growls at me.

“You’re being unreasonable!” I say. I don’t even know why I said that because he’s the most reasonable one out of the two of us if I was being honest.

“Fine! What do you want, Mase?” he asks.

“My brother back,” I say dumbly.

“Tough luck because you’re a dumbass,” he says, finally turning to look at me. He has a smirk on his face before saying, “I’m going to enjoy watching you want her, crave her, going out of your fucking mind when she starts to ignore you. I can guarantee you, brother, you fucked up big time tonight and I don’t know if you’re going to be able to fix this shit now,” he finishes, giving me a sadistic smile that I didn’t know he was capable of.

The look says he can’t wait to watch me suffer, and he’s going to enjoy every moment of it.

“What are you even talking about?” I ask.

“Nah, I’m going to let you figure it out, big bro,” he says, before walking away and leaving me alone, standing there.

I decide to call it quits even though I didn’t get a chance to work out properly. I make my way out of the gym and back up to my room. I walk straight into the shower and once I’m done, I get dressed and lie on my bed.

It doesn’t take long for me to get restless and without thinking, I get up and head straight into Winter’s room. I walk closer to her bed and slip under the covers with her.

Don’t ask me why, because I have absolutely no clue why I even want to be close to her right now.

I pull the blanket away from her for a moment and then lift up the T-shirt she’s wearing to take a look at her rib. There’s a large angry bruise there. I lightly caress the bruise, wishing I could make it go away. It was a total accident, but I feel like shit over it.

I look up at her face for a minute as I push her shirt back down and pull her into my arms. She whimpers in her sleep and her chest rises and falls as though she’s crying in her sleep. I wrap my arms tighter around her, being careful with her and just lie there for a while.

“I don’t care about her, my ass,” Grayson says, and I look up to see him standing in the doorway to her room. I was so lost in my thoughts I didn’t even hear the door open.

“What are you doing here?” I ask.

“I should be asking you the same thing,” he replies.

“I’m just checking on her,” I say lamely.

“I was about to do the same. Though I don’t think she’ll be waking up anytime soon. I crushed up two sleeping pills into the water I gave her,” he tells me.

“Why the hell would you do that?” I ask.

“Just taking care of my girl,” he says, smirking, and once again I want to punch my brother in the face. “She needed the rest after everything you put her through, dickhead!” he finishes.

“Okay, leave now,” I grumble.

“Enjoy this little whatever you have going on because I’m sure it’s your last with her,” he says, smirking again before he walks out of the room, closing the door behind him.

I lie with her for another hour before I get up and head out of her room and into mine. I suddenly feel like I have too much energy inside me because of Grayson’s words. I don’t know what to do right now.

He’s so sure that everything will change after today and I don’t know what to think. I mean, it can’t change more than it already has, right?

I grab my laptop and try looking for something to do. After a few minutes of just browsing, I see an ad for a fighting ring right here in Ravenwood.

Ah! That’s the perfect thing to do to work out my frustrations. I grab all the information I’ll need with the intention of visiting tonight.

I can’t wait to pound my frustrations out on someone’s face. This will also be the perfect distraction from my wayward thoughts.
