“She’s nervous,” Nicu noted.

“You think?”

“She’s going to get drunk if she keeps that up. You know what a lightweight she is,” he added, as if I didn’t know that about her. Even Nicu, who felt for her only as a brother, shifted in his seat. He was as possessive as I was, and he didn’t like what he was seeing. Beautiful, innocent Nina alone in a club and drinking fast due to nerves.

I should go there and smack her behind for bringing a fake ID into my club because she’s not twenty-one yet.

“What am I supposed to do about it? I’m not her keeper.”

“Do what you’ve always wanted to do,” he counseled. I rolled my eyes. Nicu and his perceptive comments. I’d guided him into this twisted life as soon as I could morally do so. Like me, he’d killed his first quarry at the age of fifteen.

Ripping my eyes away from Nina, I turned to my brother. “What the fuck are you suggesting, frate?” I returned, my tone dripping with sarcasm.

“Yes, I am your brother, and as your brother, you can’t hide from me. Christ, Alex, you’ve been panting after that woman for years. Get her before someone else does, because, believe me, you won’t like it if they do.”

“The fuck do you mean before someone else does?”

Nicu arched an eyebrow, throwing me a blasé stare. We had a little stare down, as only brothers could.

“I’d break her,” I argued.

“I highly doubt it,” he drawled.

“You know how my tastes run,” I reminded Nicu. And myself.

“I’m sure she knows. Everyone knows.” He paused a beat. “It’s not exactly a secret, and she knows more than most. If she doesn’t, I’m sure you’ll break her in gently. Nina’s stronger than she looks, and she wants you. She’s got a little subbie in that lush body dying to come out and play. It’s part of the reason you’ve had a hard-on for her since she sprouted that rack.”

“You know, the real problem is that she’s Tasa’s best friend.”

“Please, motherfucker. Tasa’s gone and forging her own life. She’s left the city, and she’s not coming back. You’ve got free rein, brother.”

The tall man’s fingers glided up Nina’s bare arm to her shoulder and squeezed. My blood went from a low simmer to a boil in a second flat.

“Don’t say that. I’ll find Tasa and bring her back safely,” I swore to him.

Ignoring my oath, he asked, “How do you know she didn’t come here on purpose anyway? Not only does she know who owns this place, but she knows this is our spot. Are you trying to tell me that since she walked in here, her eyes haven’t strayed over here once? Doubt it. And if she is avoiding us, then it’s for the sole purpose of making you jealous.”

“She’s too innocent to make a play like that…plus Tasa needs her ten times more than I do.”

“Alex, this little stunt is right out of our dear little sister’s playbook.”

The man captured Nina’s chin and crushed his mouth on hers.

“Fuck!” I cursed harshly.
