The guy who had placed his hands on Cara wasn’t phased as he moved in for another attempt to grind up on her. Cara could smell the alcohol coming out of his sweaty pores as she blocked his advance. He had on an untucked oxford blue dress shirt with a loosened tie and khaki pants.

Cara knew the type all too well, and she and Lucy even had a name for any young man who fit the description: Bud Fox. Named after Charlie Sheen’s character in Wall Street, they were the type of guy she hated the most at clubs. They were typically fresh out of college, finally making some real money, and they thought that entitled them to whatever unclaimed girl they found on the dance floor.

“What’s up, baby, you a dyke or something?”

“Excuse me?” Lucy said as she stepped between Cara and the unwanted guest.

“Oh, I’m sorry, is that your girlfriend? Can I watch?” the guy said, unfazed.

“Listen, it’s just a girls night, okay? We’re not interested,” Cara replied, trying to keep the situation from getting out of hand. She knew where this could go, and she didn’t want any more drama in her life.

“Whatever… whores!” the guy in the blue shirt yelled as he and his friend walked away to find their next victims.

Lucy and Cara both looked at each other, relieved that they left.

“Bud Fox!” they said in unison, laughing.

Two songs later Cara looked at her watch and realized it was getting late for a weeknight. Even though she was having a great time with Lucy, she didn’t want to pay for it the next day. Besides, Lucy was back in town now, so they’d have plenty of more adventures.

“Hey, do you want to get going? I have two classes in the morning and it’s already almost ten…”

“I thought you’d never ask, I’m having so much fun but I still have jet lag from my flight!” Lucy responded, relieved.

“I’ll call Grace and have her meet us out front. Where’s your car? We can drop you off there.”

“I actually didn’t drive, my license expired while I was overseas so I had my mom drop me off at Lola.”

“Oh, I’m sure that Grace can drop you off on our way back.”

“Ummm, not until after I get to meet your new man,” Lucy stated.

“Oh boy, I’m not sure I’m ready for that… or should I say I don’t think he’s ready for that….”

“Why would you say that?”

“Because I know my best friend, and she likes to ask way too many questions,” Cara joked.

“I’ll be good, I promise!” Lucy said as she held up her right hand as if she was pledging an oath.

“Fine, but I need to call and warn him…”
