“Nice job, fellas… tell our friend that I look forward to talking with him back at the station,” Jason said before ending the call with one of the plainclothes detectives that had just placed a very surprised Tick into custody.

Jason looked over at his passenger, Ernie Page, who was doing his best to keep it together. In less than an hour, he was going to help the Cleveland Police Department infiltrate a prostitution ring controlled by the Russian mob. He couldn’t help but think that he was about to regret his decision to help the detective.

This is not going to end well for me…

“Hey, relax, all you have to do is go in and do whatever you did before. Well, minus the sex,” Jason chuckled.

“Very funny…”

“Seriously, though, just pay the money, get the room key, and then walk over to the room. That’s when you will see the cavalry coming in hot. Once you do, get down on the ground and cover your head. We are going to arrest you just like the rest of them so they won’t know it’s you that sold them out.”

“Oh, I still think that they’ll have an idea. Then I’m a dead man,” Ernie replied.

“If this thing leads to where I think it does, you won’t be a blip on their radar even if they do think it’s you. They’ll have a lot more to worry about,” Jason said, implying that this was about more than hookers and pimps.

“Is that supposed to make me feel better, Detective?”

“Ernie, if I was worried about your feelings I would have become a therapist or something.”

Ernie’s shoulders fell a little as he sat in the passenger seat, contemplating a way out of the situation he found himself in.

Maybe I can just jump out of the car while it’s moving?

Jason pulled into a parking lot about a mile down there road from the motel that Ernie would soon be visiting. Awaiting him was a staging area that included an armored police vehicle and a dozen SWAT officers in full gear armed with AR-15 rifles.

Joining them was First District Commander, Michael “Mick” McCarthy, who met Jason as he exited his vehicle.

“Well, Detective Knox, looks like we didn’t get dressed up for nothing!” Mick said as he shook Jason’s hand. His voice was a mixture of excitement and adrenaline, which was pretty typical for any cop about to make a bust.

“Sure looks that way… Hopefully, they’ll give us some insight on the dead Russian girls that keep washing ashore, too,” Jason said, lowering his voice.

“I apprised Chief Johnston of the situation. He’s very excited to get a press release out as soon as we’re ready to. Especially if these Russians have any ties to the EPK case,” Mick whispered to Jason.

“Trust me, Mick, if there’s a link between the two I’ll be even more excited than the Chief,” Jason whispered back.

“Well, alright then. The boys are all set and we have this jackass’s car over here for him to drive to the motel,” Mick said as he nodded toward Ernie, who was still seated in Jason’s cruiser.

“Perfect, I’ll be parked across the street in the parking lot of the Five Star Packaging building. I’ll have eyes and ears on Ernie, the motel, and will be in direct contact with you and the team. Once I see Ernie exit the motel office with the key, I’ll give the green light to go in,” Jason confirmed.

“We’ll be ready and will be coming in hot. Make sure this douchebag gets his ass down so we don’t accidentally shoot him and protect future car buyers,” said Mick, jokingly.

“I already prepped him and told him that he will be cuffed just like the rest of them and to keep his mouth shut.”

“Well then, let’s go catch some bad guys!”
