“I told you, today we’re after same thing. Come close so I can whisper,” he gestured to Jason, who leaned in as Vlad whispered in his ear for the next few minutes.

Next door, in the adjacent interrogation room, Jason could hear someone yelling through the walls.

“I want my lawyer!” Timothy “Tick” Braun yelled at Mick McCarthy, who was trying his best not to lose his cool.

“How’s the arm, Tick? Still sore?” Mick said, ignoring his request.

“Oh, you mean the arm that bitch broke?”

“She’s not a bitch, you’re just mad that a chick kicked your little ass.”

“Oh, what’s the matter? Were you tapping that, Commander? Does your wife know?”

“Ask your mom, oh wait… sorry about that, Tick. She hates you, too.”

Mick hated that he was stooping to Tick’s level. In fact, he rarely ever did interrogations anymore since his promotion to Commander. But, this was personal. He’d wanted a run at Tick ever since he walked last year after his case was thrown out.

Just then, Jason Knox pounded on the door and signaled for Mick to come out into the hallway.

“What’s up? I was just about to bust his balls some more for getting his ass kicked by a chick!” Mick said loud enough for Tick to hear him as he closed the door.

“Look at what Vladimir Popov just gave me. He said it’ll solve the EPK case. He wants the attempted murder and narcotics drugs dropped, though.”

Mick looked up solemnly at Jason after he read the paper.

“If this is true, I’ll get the DA to drop the attempted murder and drug charges myself. We gotta go.”

Jason nodded, and the two ran off in the direction of the department’s bullpen area where they could fill the other detectives in on their recent discovery.

Tick, who witnessed the detectives running off, started yelling even louder to whoever would hear him.

“Yo, where are you going? Get me the hell outta here, man! This ain’t funny!”
