His eyes still give him an unfair advantage…

Coop leaned in and pressed his lips against hers in a way that was both gentle and firm.

Cara felt herself melt in his arms, which were now wrapped around her hips, but also securely over her arms.

Coop let that first kiss linger before pulling her face close to his chest and resting his chin on top of her hair. He could not remember the last time he held anyone so close, let alone a beautiful young woman.

After a few minutes in that embrace, Cara pulled away enough so that she was facing him.

“Coop…” Cara began in a way that a question was sure to follow.

“Yes…” Coop replied, not sure what was coming next.

“Will you take me fishing tomorrow?” Cara asked in a way that, out of context, could never have held the same sincerity that she had in her voice.

The question seemed to have caught Coop off guard, but the tone of her voice made it easy for him to recover. This was about more than casting a line in the water. Cara was asking him to do something that she obviously had been yearning to do for quite some time. Something that was very important to her, it just happened to be fishing.

“I thought you’d never ask…” Coop responded.

This time it was Cara who initiated the kiss, and with it, she felt some of the sadness that had been wrapped around her heart dissolve.
