“Good morning… or should I say afternoon?” Cooper Madison asked as the athletic form of Cara Knox entered the kitchen where he was making a late breakfast. She was wearing one of his old heather gray “Property of Chicago Cubs” t-shirts, which was so big on her frame that it easily covered the fact that was just about all that she was wearing.

“What time is it?” she asked as he handed her a mug of coffee.

“Just past noon, perfect time for Sunday brunch…”

Coop set down two plates of scrambled eggs and toast on the kitchen table and pulled out a chair for Cara.

“Look at you... coffee, breakfast, and you pulled the chair out for me? I must’ve done something right last night...”

“I’d say so…” Coop replied as he leaned in and gave her a soft kiss on her cheek as she was seated.

“You weren’t so bad yourself, you know…” Cara responded before taking a sip of her coffee.

“Thanks… I think?” Coop chuckled as he sat down at the table.

“I’m sorry, I’m not good at this part…”

“It’s okay, I was just ‘gettin your goat’…”

“I’m assuming that means teasing?”

“Yes, ma’am…”

“I’m going to need a translator, I think…”

“Don’t worry, you’ll catch on.”

Cara stared at Coop for a moment as she struggled to find the right words.

“Listen, there are so many things I want to tell you about how amazing last night was… I’m just not very good at expressing my feelings like that.”

Coop smiled and nodded.

“You don’t have to say anything, Cara.”

“I know… it’s just that I’m still processing all of this. Everything’s happening so quickly…”

“I feel the same way, trust me. In the past few days, I’ve gone from barely leaving my apartment to a family birthday party for a girl I just met.”

Cara looked down at her plate, slowly moving the scrambled eggs around with her fork. Coop reached across the table and firmly grasped her hand.

“I just want to you to know, Cara Knox, that if given the option I would do it all over again. I just hope you feel the same way.”

Cara looked up, revealing a single teardrop making its way down the right side of her face.

“I do…” she managed to reply.

Coop wiped away the tear from her cheek with the back of his long and thick fingers, which still showed signs of wear and tear from his pitching days.

Before Cara could respond, Coop’s cell phone sprang to life from its place on the kitchen counter. Coop hopped up to answer it and made a face of annoyance when he saw the caller ID.

“T-Squared… to what do I owe the pleasure on this fine Sunday…”

“Have you seen CMZ?” the voice of Todd “T-Squared” Taylor barked on the other end.

“No sir, not since yesterday…” Coop replied as he signaled to Cara that he was going to step outside the kitchen to continue the call. He went out onto the balcony and closed the door behind him.
