“I’m saying you need to go. You need to accept this job.”

“It’s not a job offer,” I push out through gritted teeth.

“You’ve been headhunted for this job. It’s as good as.”

“I am not interviewing for a job I don’t want to make you feel better.”

“Oh yes, you are. Leave!” She points to the door. “Go! Go to your stupid interview for your stupid job and leave me alone.”

I open my mouth to argue with her, but if there’s one thing I’ve learned about Ellery Promise West, it’s that when her mind is set, you need to give her time to calm down. I’ll give her time, but I won’t be going to any interview.

“This is not goodbye or the end,” I declare. “If I leave here now, it changes nothing between us.”

“It changes everything,” she whispers before retreating to our bedroom to hide.

I slam the door and stomp down the stairs. She kicked me out. She fucking kicked me out. I know it’s because she’s stubborn and scared, but it still stings like a bitch.

There’s only one thing I can do. I need to come up with a way to prove to her once and for all, I’m not leaving. I’m never leaving. No matter what company comes calling, I’m in Winter Falls to stay.
