“It’s a grandmother’s privilege or so my mom’s told me about a gazillion times since she found out she’s going to be a grandma.”
Mom got over her shock of becoming a grandmother in approximately two point eight seconds. She fell in love with Ellery and the West family five seconds later. She’s planning to return to Winter Falls for Easter. She was completely charmed by the town. She couldn’t stop talking about how great a place it would be to grow up. I won’t be surprised if she wants to move here.
I’m not there yet. My plan is to convince Ellery to move. I don’t know how since her business is here and you can’t exactly pick the inn up and place it in another location, but maybe I can find another old property for her to renovate for a bed and breakfast. In Chicago. Near me. Between my architectural skills and her knowledge of hostelry, the possibilities are endless.
“And I’m not prepared,” Ellery whines and brings me back to the room. “I don’t have a crib or baby clothes or…” She throws her hands in the air. “I don’t even know what stuff I need.”
“We’ll figure it out.”
She doesn’t hear me as she continues to rant. “And look at me. I’m wearing my blouses untucked because I haven’t bought pregnancy clothes yet. What woman who’s five months pregnant hasn’t bought pregnancy clothes yet?”
I grasp her hand. “You’re barely showing.”
“Did you not notice the humongous belly I have last night?”
Oh, I noticed. It isn’t humongous, but it is gorgeous. Watching her belly grow as my child develops inside of her is a major turn-on. I can’t wait to watch as her belly swells even more in the coming months.
“Humongous is a bit of an exaggeration.”
She wags her fork at me. “Don’t tell me I’m exaggerating!”
I hold my hands up in surrender. “I rescind my comment.” I indicate her plate. “Now, eat your pancakes before they get cold. Rowan will never give me a recipe again if you don’t appreciate his pancakes.”
She grunts before diving into her food. As she eats, I begin to formulate my plan. A plan to convince Ellery I’m the man for her. Because I am the man for her. I know it. She just needs to figure it out.
