“A crib, a changing table, a diaper pail, a baby monitor.”

“What the hell, Cole? That’s everything I need for the baby’s nursery.”

“Not everything. You still need a rocking chair or glider, but I wasn’t certain which one you’d want. I figure you can pick one out later.”

“You’ve lost your mind. Truly lost your mind. Where am I going to put everything? I don’t have room for a big nursery in my place. I figured I’d put a crib in my bedroom.”

He clears his throat. “Actually.”

“Oh, for crying out loud, what now?”

“You do remember I’m an architect.”

“Yes.” I nod. “You think it’s fun to play with crayons.”

“I do. I also think it’s fun to draw buildings and such.”

“Spit it out. What did you do?”

“I came up with a way to build a nursery in your apartment.”

“What?” My eyes nearly bug out of my head. “How? Where?”

“We’ll need to move some of the walls, but you have enough space.”

Move the walls? I hold up my hand. “Stop talking. I can’t with you anymore.”

I’m not lying. I can’t handle him coming up with yet another way to help me. He’s being sweet and acting as if he’s going to be in my life forever. Something I know to not be true. I can’t get used to him being here. I’ll be devastated when he’s gone.

Oh, who am I kidding? I’ll be devastated when he’s gone no matter what. No matter how much I’ve tried to sever the string tethering us together, it’s only getting stronger.
