She cradles my face with her hands. “I didn’t say you were. I know you’re going to be a wonderful dad. I see it in everything you do for our baby.”

I grasp her hands. “I don’t do it all for our baby. I do it for you, too.”

She bites her bottom lip. “You really love me?”

“I really love you,” I whisper before leaning close to sip from her lips. The second our mouths meet a spark ignites between us. “Do you feel it? The connection we have?”

I wait until she nods before diving into her mouth. I need to feel her lips on mine, her tongue dueling with mine. I need to convince her she’s all I see. She’s all I want. I will never leave her.

She rips her mouth from mine and gulps for air. “I love you, too, Cole Hawkins.” Her eyes widen, and I know she didn’t mean to tell me she loves me.

I rush to reassure her. “I will treasure you for the rest of our lives, Ellery Promise.”

Her mom knew what she was doing when she gave Ellery the middle name of Promise because Ellie is the promise of everything I’ve ever wanted in life but was too afraid to reach for.

“Maybe you should show me how much you treasure me.” She throws me a saucy wink.

“I can do that.” I lift her in my arms and carry her toward the bedroom. Our bedroom from this moment forward. Because I am not sleeping without Ellery in my arms again.

But first I plan to show her how much I love her by worshipping every inch of her body. I set her on her feet at the foot of the bed.

“Let’s get this party started.”

She giggles as I reach for the top button of her blouse. The sound is music to my ears. I will work my ass off to make her happy every day of my life. She deserves nothing less.
