I blink rapidly, staring at her round face, wide chocolate eyes, and umber skin. “How do you know my name?”

She winks. “That’s part of my job. Let me take your bag and you can tell me all about your flight while we head to your room. I’ve already completed your check-in process.”

Rosa hurries along, her short dark-brunette hair bobbing as she does. She turns back when she realizes I haven’t followed. “Are you coming, Ella?”

“Uh, yeah. I just need to pay for my ride.” I reach into my purse and grab my credit card.

The driver takes the plastic from me, and I stay leaning against the window until he’s finished. I notice a picture of two young kids and a woman between them that I assume to be his wife. The sight of his lovely family causes a pang of jealousy to spark within me, but I shake the nonsense away when he hands my card back.

“Don’t forget to try windsurfing. It’s not every day you get to visit the world’s best island.” He smiles again before putting the car back into drive.

I nod and step away. Rosa is waiting for me and still too happy for someone in the service industry. Her grin is highlighted by her smooth dark skin, and I instantly want to like her.

“All set?” she asks, and I nod. “Great! Let’s get you settled, then.”

We walk through the front, and I notice there are no doors on any of the exits. Everything is open, and fresh air is carried through the opulent room by a light breeze.

Marble floors that match the columns from outside span as far as I can see. The ceiling is vaulted and covered in white oak slats. There is a concierge area, but Rosa bypasses that and heads for the bank of elevators.

“After you.” She gestures right when the shiny black doors open.

I step inside to find the interior covered in what I assume to be stainless steel and an electronic screen with four unmarked buttons beneath it. Rosa presses one and then scans a card before turning toward me.

“So, your flight. I hope it was well,” she says.

I nod. “It was actually great once I got on the plane. I was upgraded to first class.”

Rosa whistles. “Lucky you. Let’s see if I can match the airline’s kindness with some of the adventures that we have planned for you. I’ve adjusted your itinerary given the changes in guests. Personally, I think it’s even better than before.”

“Excuse me?” Confusion chokes me for several reasons. The first being how in-the-know Rosa seems to be. She knew my name and knows Gavin didn’t come with me, even though I never told the resort. The second confusion being that I never signed up to have this kind of service. I only chose this place because they had the most activities included with the all-inclusive booking.

While the price was higher than the others I looked at, I certainly didn’t think I had selected the fanciest of hotels, either.

“I’m sorry, Ella. Let me start over. My name is Rosa. I’m your personal concierge that has been included in your stay. I knew who you were because you were required to upload your passport before we confirmed your booking, which means we have your picture on file. We have connections with the airlines to make sure our guests catch their flights. When I saw Mr. Michaels didn’t join you, I took it upon myself to adjust the plans I made for you in hopes of making things less troublesome for you. I see now that I’ve made things worse, and I apologize. If you would like someone else to be assigned to assist you, I will let my manager know.”

Rosa’s speech makes me feel like an asshole. Of course, they had my picture. Though, it seems unconventional for the hotel to track their guests, the gesture, while creepy, is appreciated.

“It’s okay, Rosa. I was just surprised. I didn’t pay much for this room and I didn’t expect all of this. You’ve gone above and beyond, and I’ve only been here five minutes.”

Her face brightens. “We’ve had some changes in management, and they’ve made The Vistas even more magical. Don’t worry, there won’t be any hidden extra charges when you check out.”

Maybe luck is finally in my corner. First-class upgrade on the flight and now this? I’m not sure if I want to cry or jump up and down like a child.

The elevator stops, and the doors swoosh open. The hallway is wide, and there’s a sign for rooms 1501-1519 on the right and 1520-1539 on the left.

“Right this way, Ella,” Rosa says and steps out first.

The walls are covered in light-blue paint with white trim in the middle, breaking up the monotony. The runner beneath my feet covering the now familiar marble is plush and a light gray.

“What room am I in?” I ask.

“1539. Corner room with a great view if I do say so myself,” she answers, pulling my bag behind her like she couldn’t fathom doing anything else more joyous.

Less than a minute later, we arrive at my door. Rosa pulls out the same card she used in the elevator and swipes it over the black square on the door. It beeps and pops open.

“Welcome to your home away from home at The Vistas, Ms. Danes,” Rosa says, stepping back to let me in first.

I enter the room, and it’s twice the size of normal hotels I’ve stayed at. Two walls are covered in tinted windows with curtains tucked into the corners. The bed is opposite to the windows and closer to the soft yellow walls that have a few abstract art pieces gracing them.

Rosa’s bright smile grows. “The bathroom is over here. The jetted tub is to die for.”

I’m beginning to realize that everything here is to die for. For the first time since I caught Gavin with that woman on my couch, I start to believe that just maybe everything is going to be okay.
