“Daenae think about anythin’,” Conner mumbled as his lips grazed over the hollow of her neck. Olivia trembled from his hot breath on her ear as Conner stroked her desires. Closing her eyes, Olivia did as Conner requested. Pushing every thought from her mind, she relaxed her muscles.

Conner bunched her shift to her hips and slipped between her legs. Olivia let out a soft moan as Conner’s fingers slid effortlessly into her. Blocking out all other thoughts, Olivia focused on the movement of Conner’s fingers rubbing inside of her. She kept her fears at bay as he kissed the line of her collarbone.

“How does this feel?” he whispered. “Dae ye want me to stop?”

“Nay,” Olivia answered breathlessly. She knew the moment Conner stopped all her fears and worries would come crashing back on her. Slowly, she opened her eyes to meet Conner’s. His lips curled at the corners as his body shifted and pushed against hers. She could feel his manhood throbbing against her inner thigh, begging to enter her.

“Dae ye want me?” Conner asked. “Because I want ye.”

Cupping her hands around his face, she drew him to her. There was a hunger in Conner’s eyes that consumed him. It was like a fire that devoured everything in its path. Releasing his face, she drew her fingers down the length of his spine and slipped between their bodies. Slowly, she pulled his fingers out of her body and brought them to her lips.

Conner’s eyes widened as Olivia opened her mouth and twirled her tongue over his fingertips. “Aye. I want ye.”

The soft orange glow of dawn stretched out across the clearing. Damon rolled his shoulders trying to ease the pain as he stared at the small house in the clearing. With the sun coming up, he got a clear view of all that was before him. Everything the darkness masked was now visible.

The house was small with its thatched roof and stone walls. From where Damon sat, there was but one window blocked by the curtains that drifted from the breeze. Damon scanned the clearing, noticing the stone wall that cut through the emerald tall grass. Tall, thick trees filled the horizon making the homestead a perfect place to hide.

What is the coincidence that Joseph and Henry ken exactly where to go?

Although Damon’s body begged for sleep, he kept a keen eye on the house, waiting for Joseph or Henry to emerge. Damon’s body jerked awake as he noticed the door opening. Inching closer, he found his heart pounding in his chest as a young woman stepped out with a basket in her hand. The cooing of the rooster filled the area, causing the birds in the canopy to take flight.

“Daenae forget the eggs,” another voice called from inside. Damon shifted his attention from the young woman to the window. His heart dropped into his stomach. Suddenly he felt as if he were an unwelcome visitor spying on a family when he should have been out searching for Joseph.

What if there is another way out of the house and Joseph slipped out in the middle of the night?

But I cannae go back without Joseph. That would break Olivia and Conner’s trust in me. Goin’ back would cause them both to look over their shoulders for the rest of their life. And I’ll nae be responsible for that torment.

“Aye, I ken,” the young girl answered as she swung the basket in her hand and pranced around the house before disappearing on the other side.

Damon’s heart fluttered as he moved quickly through the trees, using the shadows to mask his movement. He paused near a boulder ensuring he still had the front door in his sights. His hand slipped to the hilt of his sword as he stalked the girl.

Pursing his lips into a tight line, Damon’s mind began to wander. He couldn’t help but notice how attractive the girl was as he watched her ruffling through the chicken coop, hunting for eggs. Her hair was auburn and shimmered in the sunlight, reminding Damon of fields of wheat. Even from the distance, he noticed the shape of her eyes as she looked up and scanned the tree line.

For a moment, Damon wondered if she had spotted him. Ducking around the boulder, he tried to keep his nerves in check. Racing through different scenarios, Damon wondered what he would do if she came out to the woods. Would he attack her? Kidnap her and use her as a means to get to Joseph?

Damon dared to steal a peek over the boulder. The girl’s laughter was like bells to Damon’s ears causing his spirits to lift. There was a light playfulness that made him want to reveal himself to her.

“How long daes it take ye to get eggs?” the woman from inside scolded. The young girl glanced over her shoulder and exhaled.

“Comin’,” the girl answered as she made her way back to the front door. Relief washed through Damon as he watched her make her way around the house.

There is nay other way in or out. Good. This will make it easier.

Inching closer, Damon’s eyes focused on the window. The curtains that once blocked his view of the inside were pulled to the side, giving him a limited view. His heart stopped as he stared at the woman on the inside. She had long, dark hair braided to one side. But it was her almond-shaped eyes that caught Damon’s attention more than anything.

Well, arenae ye a lovely thin’. But what are ye doin’ so far from the village?

Rubbing his eyes, Damon looked again as the woman prepared the food in front of the window. His eyes shifted from the older woman to the young girl at the front door. His heartbeat quickened at the sight of the young girl. She turned her head, scanning the treeline. The corners of her mouth dropped into a frown.

Now, where have I seen ye before?

Damon rubbed the back of his neck, wracking his brain trying to place the face.

His eyes shifted from the girl to the older woman and back again. There was no doubt they were related, mother and daughter together trapped in the delapitated house.

Dropping to the ground, Damon ran his fingers through his hair and shook his head.
