Temporary was a lifetime more than Calista thought she would get with him. “Okay, temporary.” She held her breath, alert to the tension of his body, eager to see his next move, hear his next words, and feel his next touch.

Ronan pressed his lips together before speaking. “You’re agreeing, but I want to make sure you understand. When the paperwork’s done, our relationship changes. I won’t have a front office romance.”

Was she in control of this? She was, and being with him felt right. Calista reached up and cupped his face. “We have a very short window, maybe until Monday of next week, a few weeks at most. We’ll never make it past February.” She’d never said truer words. Even without the organization ownership issue. “A day, a week, a month, I’m on board, and I won’t make this weird for you.”

“It isn’t you.”

Calista nodded, and got that this time, it really wasn’t. Being with her would cause him all kinds of grief and attention. Was she being selfish? Maybe. She looked down.

He placed his fingers on her chin and lifted until she met his gaze. “It isn’t you,” he repeated.

She nodded. “Where do we go from here?”

Ronan eased off the window seat and stood in front of her. “What do you want? Say it simply for me, so I understand.”

Calista spun to face him, putting her back to the window. Verbal clarity was not her strength, but she knew what she wanted. Calista tilted her head back and looked up into his blue eyes. “An orgasm.”
