TIFFANY

I’m damn well hoping I get this job today. Honestly, I’m desperate. It’s either I get the job, or I get to be homeless, but I’m not about to mention that to my potential boss.

I ring the doorbell of this wildly huge mansion; let’s call it a fortress, but even that can’t describe the scale of this beauty seated on a vast green, well-cultured landscape. The estate is built from dark red bricks, followed by a cobblestone path leading you right up to the grand doors.

I can barely remove my finger from the doorbell before a tall man opens up the doors, smiling awkwardly down on me; the butler I assume. I get the feeling he’s awkward, or just rather creepy. The man has gray hair, blue-gray eyes, and is wearing a gray suit to complement his well-built structure.

Thunder rumbles in the distance so I quickly hurry inside. I’m not about to stand outside any longer and run the risk of getting poured on.

No thank you.

The weatherman said it was going to rain today but I was hoping I’d be lucky enough to beat it. I don’t need a single thing messing this opportunity up for me, even including a little rain.

The butler remains standing at the doorway, staring at me as if he’d like to know why I just ran in here in the first place.

“I’m here to see Mr. Garrison,” I say to the man.

He stares at me for a second before giving me a silent nod, then begins to walk down the hall off to the left of the staircase. I quickly follow behind. I could easily get lost in this palace in just a split second.

“Right through the door on the left, he’s waiting for you,” he says, without even telling me his name.

Not one for small talk, I suppose.

I imagine the butler has the easiest job, considering all he has to do is answer the door and a few small tasks now and then. I can only assume he mainly guards the entrance, filtering visitors in and out throughout the day. You would think he would be just a little more sociable.

As I approach Mr. Garrison’s door, I turn the doorknob without even thinking, without even knocking, and walk right into a beautiful office with an even more beautiful man sitting behind a large, gray desk.

He looks up at me, surprised as I just barged in his office… stupidly if I might add.

I feel faint. I feel a lot more nervous than I did before now, seeing how handsome this man is, how white his teeth shine, how built he appears hidden under his suit that probably cost just as much as my childhood home. But then again, this man could seriously get anything he wants. His fortune is limitless, and I suddenly feel all the more self-conscience now that I realize just where I’m at right now.

I immediately bring myself to consciousness and adjust my dress.

“Ms. Harold?” He asks, raising an eyebrow at me as I go to take the empty seat placed before his desk.

“Yes, sir, but please, call me Tiffany. I don’t prefer my father’s last name.”

I bite down on my lip as I try to contain my nerves while smoothing out my dress that barely reaches my knees.
