I press my back against the wall, wishing I could disappear.

“Would it have happened if you knew the cameras were there?” My mother folds her arms across her chest, staring at Brady.

“Maybe so. I found her quite attractive before I even knew who she was to you. I have feelings for her,” he confesses.

Feelings for me?

“You don’t even know her! How can you say that?” My mother throws her head back and laughs at him, shaking her head when she looks at him again.

“I can say that because it’s the truth, and there’s no need for me to sit here and defend us any longer. I know you’ve been cheating on me for some time now, don’t pretend it isn’t happening. Now, why don’t you just leave instead of dragging this all out to make a scene for no damn reason,” he tells her, and her smirk suddenly fades.

“I was going to leave anyway! You’re damn right; I have been cheating on you, so have fun screwing my daughter! Carlo is a much better lover than you have ever been to me.” She spits out.

If the hired help didn’t know what’s going on before, they know now. All the servants seem to have be scared since I have yet to see anyone other than Ms. Dana, but I’m sure it’s because they know better to carry on with their responsibilities for the day. I’m certain their prying ears are straining to catch every word of this blowout.

“Mother, I…”

“What, you’re sorry?” She glares at me.

“I can’t say that I am. From the second I stepped into Brady’s office in the hopes of getting a job, I found myself attracted to him. I felt a connection,” I explain to her, even though I know this is the last thing she wants to hear right now.

“Maybe that connection was that he is your mother’s husband. Have you ever thought of that?” She raises an eyebrow at me, scoffing.

“I didn’t know that this was your house, so no, I wouldn’t have thought of that. I had no idea!” I shake my head, lowering my eyes to the floor.

I expect to feel at least a sliver of guilt, but I don’t. Especially now that I know of the affair she’s been having on Brady. He doesn’t deserve to be treated so harshly, and by such a cold woman.

“You didn’t care to not sleep with my husband even knowing it was going to tear a marriage apart,” she throws at me.

I don’t say a word. I bite down on my lip again as I’m not sure what to say to her.

“Of course not, you were always good at tearing families apart. If it hadn’t been for you telling your father about my lover, then I would very well still be with him,” she spits at me.

I turn towards Brady and watch as his expression turns cold, narrowing his eyes at my mother.

“You cheated on her father, and yet, you stand here with the nerve to yell at her?” Brady questions, his face beet-red with anger.

“You’re still her stepfather! Let me guess, she calls you daddy?” She asks, laughing at her own words.

When she notices I’m not laughing, nor Brady, she realizes the truth — that is what I do.

“You guys are disgusting,” she hisses at us.

She gives us a hostile look, then turns around to storm out of the dining room.

A second later, the front door slams shut.

I look over at Brady, feeling unsure of what to say now. He hasn’t said a word.

He turns his gaze from the door to me, lust lingering in his eyes. He wants me still. He wants me.

“I want you to take a shower and come see me in my room,” he tells me roughly, as my heart pounds against my chest.
