“I thought I would go on a few interviews for a job, and well, apparently, I’m your new maid.” I laugh, a little shocked that this sexy-as-hell man is married to my mother, of all people. She’s not one to show love or stay loyal to another one’s love for her.

Why would a man like this be with someone like her?

“Your father threw you out, didn’t he?” She whispers.

I pull back from her hold.

“Something like that… I’ve just been so all over the place lately, I haven’t been able to connect with you, let alone see you,” I explain as she releases her hold.

“Well, you do live halfway across the other side of the country so I can’t say I’ve made an effort to visit either. We haven’t seen each other for years.”

My mother laughs a little, shaking her head.

“Not anymore, as I live here with you guys now, and I promise, just because I’m your daughter doesn’t mean you’ll find me slacking off,” I assure her, even though she knows that’

s of no concern.

“Of course, darling. How old are you now anyway?” My mother asks, blushing at the fact that she should very well know the answer to my age.

Brady arches an eyebrow at her. “You don’t know how old your daughter is?”

She glares over at him. “There’s been a rocky history between us, maybe not so good, but I’m ready to start a fresh slate now.”

“I just had my eighteenth birthday,” I tell her, not feeling a bit surprised that she had to ask.

She’s right; we haven’t talked for years simply because of an argument where neither of us were willing to admit our wrongs.

“How old are you?” I tease back. I’m not even entirely sure these days. I hardly know the woman anymore, and it’s clear she no longer knows me.

“I’m thirty-nine, and Brady is forty-seven, just in case you wanted to know his age too.” She laughs.

I feel as if she’s waiting for me to say something back, though I bite my tongue. How can I say he’s too old for her when I think he’s just right for me?

Years ago, my mother had been running around on my father and I told him to make her move out. I told him he needed to let her know that she needs to find a way to make it on her own. My mother has been in the wrong, and maybe we both have been in the wrong, but then again, I was only a child. She’s always placed the blame on me.

I try to keep the memory removed from my thoughts; it’s not a pleasant one I’ll say.

“Your father didn’t let you bring your things?” She asks, already knowing how my father can be when he’s upset. When you get on his bad side, you’re on his bad side, alright. His childish ways are no longer tolerated by me and that’s why I’m here, starting off completely fresh.

“You know how he can be.” I roll my eyes at her, laughing at the situation I’m in right now.

I notice Brady to the side, watching his eyes bounce back and forth between the two of us in shock.

“I have a few outfits in my wardrobe I can offer up until you’re able to get something new. I’m sure I must have something your size.” She smiles at me, then turning to head toward the set of stairs that leads up to the master suite.

It’s just Brady and me now.

I feel anxious… nervous, once again.

I see the way he’s looking at me. A small grin comes to his face as he moves toward me the second my mother is out of sight.

He quickly grabs hold of my hips with his mammoth hands, forcing me into his chest as I can feel the control he has over my body right now.

He leans down, pressing his lips along the edge of my ear.

“Well, this will be far more exciting than I first had imagined,” he whispers.

His hands drift up to my side, sliding closer in on my breasts, right here in the sitting room.
