“Jesus Christ,” Jaxon mutters. “Will you fuckin’ stop already?”

“What?” Andrew asks all innocent like. “You can’t tell me none of you fuckers haven’t role-played.”

“If we had, we sure as shit aren’t going to tell the whole world about it,” Nick answers.

Andrew shrugs. “I’m not telling the whole world. Just you guys.”

“Well, we don’t want to hear about it,” Mia says, leaning back in her chair with a disgruntled look.

“Whatever.” Andrew looks back to me, leaning his elbows on the bar. “You keep an eye on our girl.” His voice turns serious.

“You know I will. Just as soon as Jaxon finds someone to work the bar, I’m heading that way.”

An image of Ally’s face when I told her I wanted to go with her flashes through my mind. She tried to hide it, but I saw the flicker of worry in her eyes. She’ll just have to suck it up. There’s no fucking way I’m going two months without seeing her. I know Nick will be okay with me taking time off from work. He’s already given me enough to help Jaxon cover the bar.

Andrew nods. “Good.” He leans back in his chair, throwing his arm over the back of Jase’s. “Keep me posted, yeah?”

“You know it.”

The door opens again, and Bailey comes inside. She makes her way behind the bar and immediately goes straight to Jaxon, where he wraps his arms around her waist and tugs her against him.

I pull out some lemons from the mini fridge under the bar and begin cutting them into wedges. Over the next several hours, I try to keep myself busy. The busier I am, the less time I’ll have to ponder over what’s really going on with Ally. Thank fuck it’s Friday. The bar is always packed on Fridays.

The later it gets, the more people show up. I keep my phone on me with the volume up in case Ally calls. I’ve already spoken with her once since she left. That was a couple of hours ago, and I’m becoming antsy she hasn’t called since then.

As if knowing my nerves are shot, my phone rings from my pocket. I pull it out as I walk from behind the bar and into the dark hallway.

“Hey, baby,” I answer.

“Hey.”

I close my eyes at hearing her voice. It already feels like she’s been gone for days.

“Where are you?” I ask, leaning a shoulder against the wall.

“About three hours out. I’m going to pull over at a hotel and sleep for the night.”

“That’s a good idea.”

“You okay?” comes her quiet question.

I stare down at my shoes. “No. I miss you like fucking crazy.” I suck in a breath. “But I’ll be fine. So long as I know you make it there safely.”

“I miss you too.”

From the wistfulness in her voice, I know she means it.

“Call me before you go to sleep.”

“I will,” she promises. “I love you.”

“Love you too, Ally.”

We hang up, and I pocket my phone. With laden feet, I leave the hallway and get back to work.
