I gulp while thinking this was not how I wanted today to go. I have to keep on because at this point it's now or never. Whether I'm ready or not I have to continue with my plan. We are sitting in one of the most scenic spots by the lake. It is a gorgeous day and the area is filled with such happy people. I watch Mikah and notice just how nervous he seems. I'm glad that we are finally going to sit down and talk about all of these things that have been weighing so heavily on our hearts. It feels like this conversation is long overdue.
Before I can finish getting my thoughts together Mikah turns to me. "Susana I love you." He blurts out. Before I can react he is down on one knee in front of me. He pulls a big Diamond ring out of his pocket and asks. "Will you marry me?" He does this abruptly, as if he is trying not to lose his nerve. I'm so shocked I don't know what to do. This is not what I was expecting when he said he wanted to talk to me about something. Quickly my shock turns to elated and touched. I feel like this is my dream come true. As he kneels there, I see my cousins. "What…." I exclaim covering my mouth.
They emerge from behind the trees cheering happily. They shower us with confetti and rose petals. They all blow away on the wind. A few people stop and notice the romantic scene, a man proposing while a woman looks at him with eyed shock and admiration. "Yes, yes, of course yes!" I cry aloud in response. As Mikah slips the ring on my finger, my cousins cheer happily. A small crowd of people has gathered to watch us. They applaud and cheer us on as well. I laugh and cry with delight. Mikah pulls me into his arms for a tight hug. I kiss him with sweet passion. Everyone is excited with the vibes of happiness that float around us.
People circle us and tell us Congratulations. I hear them vaguely in the background but don't pay attention. I'm too busy celebrating my love with Mikah. Eventually the crowd disperses and we get to our feet. We start walking away from the lake. "I'm sorry, what was it you wanted to talk about like you had mentioned before I proposed?" Mikah asks politely. In all the celebrating we had forgotten about our serious discussion. I gulp and reply, "It's no big deal. I'll talk to you about it later." I stare at the ground feeling really stupid and full of mixed emotions.
"Okay." Mikah answers. He doesn't seem to notice my reaction. "I've gotten us a nice hotel for the night so we can continue our date and celebration. I've also arranged for Aunt Edith to babysit tonight in advance." He explains happily. We leave the lake and walk to the car. I'm silent as we drive to the hotel. He is still caught up in the excitement of everything. We arrive at the hotel and wait to check in. "I have to admit I was worried. At Disneyland it seemed like you were pulling back from me. I assumed it was bad news, not great news. Today was wonderful." I confess.
He turns to me and smiles. He holds my hand gently. "I was nervous during that time as well. I was afraid that if I asked you to marry me and you weren't ready, it might kill all the progress between us. Also I was afraid to ask Aunt Edith because if she didn't give her blessing I wouldn't have been able to go through with it." He admits. We check in and are given our room keys. We walk through the lobby. "She was really happy about the whole thing. Actually it was her and your cousins that helped me plan all of this. I was just going to ask you when you showed up at the house. They insisted on adding all the extra hoopla." He says with a laugh. I smile and kiss his cheek. "I love you and all the hoopla." I reply.
As we walk through the lobby he stops and pulls my hand. We gaze through the glass door of the spa. "Tomorrow I have us scheduled for a relaxing massage and soak.
