Chapter Nineteen

Jace

Listening to Marisol take charge of the situation deepens the love I feel for her. She’s one person besides me, that will always be there for Jasmine, and I can’t thank her enough. “Slow down there, tiger.” I tease, trying to lighten the mood.

“She can stay at my house,” she suggests.

“We appreciate your offer, Mare, but I don’t think Jasmine would want to live in your house. For one, I would miss her too much. Also, she loves being at home. You know that.”

She’s already nodding in agreement. “But we just can’t sit here and watch, not after what you’ve told me.”

“I know. We have a lot on our plate, don’t we?”

“Yes.” A shy smile touches her lips.

Bringing her hand to my lips, I kiss each digit. “Listen, I’m going to tell Jasmine I told you about Margret. She deserves to know. Hiding this and our relationship from her isn’t right. I understand why we’re holding off on telling her about us, but this is different, separate from our personal shit. It’s her personal shit.” There’s a battle ahead of me, for sure. Jasmine’s done everything in her power to keep our friends from finding out about her home-life and it’s all about to come crumbling down around her.

“Of course, that’s fine.” She pauses before quietly asking, “How do you think we should tell them? One at a time or together?” Without an explanation, it’s easy to interpret that she’s referring to us and our relationship.

Shit. We didn’t define ourselves and I want there to be no question who she belongs to. “Baby?”

“Hmm?” she questions, while reading a text.

“You’re my girl now, right?”

That gets her attention. “What? Didn’t we settle this last night, several times, and this morning… twice?” The hottest saucy smirk tilts her plump lips, reminding me of all the places they traveled over the last twenty-four hours.

“Just checking. I don’t want there to be any confusion if another dude asks you out. You’re unavailable, starting several weeks ago. I’ll give you a date when I figure it out.”

My attempt at humor lights her eyes, but she quickly goes back to worrying her lower lip and squirming in her seat. Instead, I reach up and drag her lower lip out of her teeth. “Calm down. We’ll get through this. We’ll rip it off like a bandaid and tell them together.”

She nods, but I can tell she needs a moment to digest. It’s one thing to sneak away for the weekend and promise a bunch of sweet nothings, but we’re singing an entirely different tune once we return to reality.

Before long, we’re less than thirty minutes away. “We’re almost home. You ready for this? Cuz, if you’re not, we can stay friends. I’ll wait until you are.” Even though it goes against every fiber of my being, I offer an out one last time.

“I’m with you. Give me the week. Next weekend, we can have another sleepover and we’ll tell them together.” The melting chocolate of her eyes flash with excitement; she likes the idea of being mine.

We’re a couple of blocks away when I realize this’ll be the last bit of alone time we’ll get before constantly being cock-blocked.

Dirt kicks up behind the car when I stop suddenly on the side of the road. Marisol’s about to ask what I’m doing when my seatbelt unclips and grip her neck. Her lips slam to mine when I pull her close, getting one last taste, one last bit of perfection before the best performance of my life.

Far too soon, I sit back and buckle. “A little something to think about while you’re away.”

Fire lights her eyes when she replies, “The soreness between my legs helps.”

Nostrils flare and pupils dilate; she beat me at my own game. “Minx.”

We lean together at the same time and seal our souls once more before continuing home.

While unpacking my clothes, I call Jaz to tell her I’m home. Too many chance happenings have been occurring with Margret, making me wonder if she’s seeking Jaz out, targeting her for some kind of sick self-satisfaction.

“Jacey!” Jasmine screeches into the screen, her face jumping around, like a shitty filmed movie.

“Jesus, sis. What the hell’s wrong with you?” I chuckle, loving that she’s as excited to see me as I am about her.

“Nothing. I miss you.”
