“Can’t stand me, huh?” Lauren moistened her lips, tempted to prove that it was time to stop playing this game.

Lauren dipped an inch closer, causing Sylvie’s breath to hitch and her eyes to slip closed. The sight of her, open and ready for her kiss, sent a devastating tremble vibrating down Lauren’s legs leaving her unsteady.

“What do you want to do,” Lauren repeated, her voice intentionally low and breathy.

Sylvie’s eyes fluttered open. “Since when do you talk so much?”

Lauren chuckled. “Clear lines of communication are important, Syl.”

“Okay, Lou,” Sylvie arched a brow. “Where can we go considering we’re sweaty, gross, and horribly under-dressed?” Her eyes brimmed with everything she wasn’t saying. Sylvie had some place in mind, and Lauren was dying to know where. “And no sand.”

“I think I can take you somewhere that checks all those boxes. How adventurous are you feeling?”

“Don’t be cute.” Sylvie’s bark had lost its bite, but Lauren was still amused by her attempts.

“You think I’m cute?” Lauren smiled in a way that she knew exposed both dimples. A deadly double barrel shotgun wielded by a sharpshooter.

A visible flush crawled up Sylvie’s chest. A red flag of defeat.

“I think you’re cute.” Lauren moistened her lips, aching to close the gap. To feel her lips again. “Are you such a baby that I have to say it first?”

Sylvie’s eyes gleamed, showing facets of amber and copper. “There’s nothing you can beat me at,” she asserted with quivering confidence.

Lauren’s pulse pounded in her neck, her racing heart making it hard to breathe evenly. “Is that a challenge?”

Sylvie drug her teeth across her bottom lip, forcing Lauren to wonder what it would feel like to bite it. “It’s a promise.”

The tiny hairs on the back of Lauren’s neck stood on end. “Let’s go.”
