Sighing and fed up with myself, I leave my condo deciding a walk through downtown is exactly what I need. The temperature is enough to make me reconsider, but I can’t stay inside any longer. Hell, I can’t even sit still.

The roads are busy with traffic as people get off work and head home. I pass many medical professionals coming from the medical district. It’s said to be Birmingham’s biggest employer, and I can see that reflected in all of the uniforms that walk beside, in front of, and behind me.

It’s definitely hot, too hot, but the fresh air relaxes me. I would think the rain this morning and the misty afternoon would have brought the temperature down, but it seems like it only made it hotter.

Speaking of heat, Stefan’s face sticks behind my eyes. My insides melt as a skittery feeling flutters through my chest. I’ve never felt this way about anyone. Is this how Belle feels about Neal? Do I look as stupid right now as Belle looks when she sees her husband? My face flames. Surely not… but I have to admit I like Stefan very much.

The more I researched his sexual preferences, instead of transcribing the interview and collecting my notes for Nadia, the more intrigued I became. I’m dying to learn more. I’m dying to experiment with him. I wonder what kind of scenes he likes to do. What would he like me to do?

I sigh. It’s not like I’ll find out any time soon. He’s too busy respecting my boundaries and right to consent. Uuuugggggh, I just want him to play with me like I read about in those forums and threads online, but he wants to “educate” me first. Damn him.

The more attracted I become to him, the more guilty I feel for misjudging him when we first met. I sicken whenever I recall the horrible way I spoke to him on our first date.

“Not only are you a disgusting man whore, you’re a cheap, arrogant, disrespectful prick!”

I groan, slapping my palm against my forehead. He’s anything but disrespectful, and he’s proven that to me many times. I was so ignorant and judgemental.

I pause at the start of the crosswalk, patiently waiting for the light to change, indicating I can walk across. I fold my arms and turn to the side, catching a clear view of the couples eating inside the restaurant behind me. I’m about to turn back around when I notice something.

My gut clenches, and my chest tightens when I see Stefan sitting at a table grinning at someone. A woman. A beautiful woman, with glossy red hair. They stand from the table, his mouth moving before they both laugh.

The woman leans in, gives him a hug, and kisses his cheek. My face flames as my heart stutters and then kicks off into the next gear. Barely able to breathe, I sprint back the way I came as fast as I can. By the time I make it back to my condo, my eyes are already burning as hot tears stream down my face. I’m so stupid.
