The sapphire blue of Stefan’s eyes holds mine as that stupid smirk lifts the side of his mouth and exposes one dimple.

“Ella, nice to meet you. Lily, I’m happy to see you again.” His voice is warm and smooth like a honey trail. I feel my stomach clench and the place between my legs tighten. Ella’s surprised gaze snaps to me. He looks even better in the bright lights of my sister’s kitchen, and I hate him all the more for it.

Belle comes around the corner, now fully clothed in black leggings and a loose fitted top. Her smile appears as she greets Stefan.

“It’s wonderful to see you again. I hope you’re staying for dinner,” she’s saying.

“I heard I have a ribeye waiting for me,” he responds. His smile is too distracting for me to look away.

“It’s got your name on it,” Belle jokes, handing him a beer from the fridge before curling into Neal’s side. His arm slides smoothly around her waist as if it’s meant to be there. I fight the urge to roll my eyes.

“What are you doing here?” I ask, clearing my face of any emotion and hoping to God that slight heat on my cheeks isn’t the blush I think it is.

“Why? Did you miss me?” he asks, leaning against the side of the island, his dark blue stare searing into me.

“Do you guys know each other?” Belle’s golden eyes move between the two of us. I ignore the significant expression in her gaze, gritting my teeth. The last thing I need is this. This very thing. I can already see the wheels turning in her eyes.

“I had the delightful experience of running into Lily at Hal’s Corner last night,” Stefan is saying.

“On fifth avenue?” Ella turns to me. “I thought you hated that bar. You said there’s too many sleazy men in there.”

I huff. That bar happens to be my favorite bar, but there are too many sleazy men in there. Before I can say anything, Stefan continues. “She left quite an impression.”

“Did she?” Belle grins conspiratorially. I fix a death glare on her silently urging her to stop looking so damn pleased.

“Don’t you have something better you can be doing?” I snap at Stefan. His responding grin is much too suggestive.

“I’m ready whenever you are,” he says, looking at Neal. Neal nods and leads him upstairs to the office, I assume.

“You have thirty seconds to tell me everything you little fake man hating minx,” Belle says as soon as they’re gone. I groan.
