Chapter Three

I picked a one-piece suit because my boobs always seemed to fall out of two-pieces, and I didn’t need that with my coworker and brother-in-law also playing in the surf.

I was on a beach towel near Anya while the guys swam. I’d already worn myself out falling down in the big waves and enjoying the feel of the water, and now I was enjoying the feel of the sun as it warmed me up.

Anya was stretched out. Every inch of her skin was perfect.

I was looking for some kind of mole or scar, but it was all unblemished. Except one scar, which tucked itself into the back of her swimsuit bottom. It peaked out the top of it only a little.

I was trying not to be looking at her so obviously, but I thought she was asleep again, and the guys were trying to drown each other in the waves, so nobody really cared where I looked.

I was staring at her smooth ice-block of a back, when her voice startled me. “Mind rubbing some cream on me? I think I’m starting to burn.”

“Cream?” I gulped. Then I felt like an idiot. She meant sunscreen, which she had in a bottle of cream, not a spray bottle.

I felt horribly lecherous. This was just a simple request.

Rubbing sunscreen on her bareback. Her bare back, I mean.

She didn’t look up. She just waited for me to do as I was asked. I squirted the cream into my hand and rubbed my hands together.

I placed both hands on her back and rubbed.

“Please cover it all,” she said, “If I get burned, I’ll know whose fault it was.”

I think maybe that was a joke? I chuckled just in case, and to let out the nerves.

Her skin was surprisingly warm. I always assumed she’d be freezing to the touch, but she’d soaked up the sun’s rays and her skin was just as warm as the soft sand.

I spread the cream over her skin evenly, making sure not to miss an inch of her back, careful not to travel too far down the sides of her body. I heard a gentle, soft exhalation of air come from her, and realized that she had, in fact, fallen asleep.

I flopped back onto my own towel and shut my eyes. At what point did touching somebody else make it infidelity? At the point where my nipples were so perky I thought they’d tear a whole through my swimsuit?

Or does it become cheating when you notice how soft and warm the other person is?

Rob came running up and kicked some sand onto my blanket.

“Why did you do that?” I asked, shaking the sand off my towel.

He smiled wickedly. “Because you’re being lame and laying here on the beach instead of swimming with me.”

I stood up to shake my towel and tried to glare at him, but he looked so gorgeous with the sun shimmering on his glistening wet body. I smiled at him and he scooped me up in his arms and ran toward the water, hooting like a madman.

He dumped me in the water and the splash battle of the century ensued. I like to think I won, and I definitely felt like I’d won the perfect husband, looking at his bright goofy smile.
