“I’m looking now,” Austin answered, speed reading through each page in the junior class. “OK, I think I found where she would be,” Austin said as he slid his finger down the page. His whole body froze the second his finger stopped on the picture. Yes, this was the girl who sat in front of him in chemistry class. He had been right about her short brown hair but had forgotten about her large, round glasses and braces. His heart tugged a little as he read the words, Jane Jones, underneath her photo.

“What’s wrong?” his mother asked, seeing Austin’s face change. “She not there?” His eyes seemed fixated on the page, staring at something, and she wasn’t sure what was wrong.

“No…” he answered softly, “she’s here, I found her.”

“Oh, good,” his mother responded with a smile. “Well, then, what’s wrong? You look like you’ve seen a ghost.”

Austin looked up at his mother with a blank stare on his face, not sure what to say. He looked down again at the photo.

“Austin?” His mother asked, looking at him again. “What’s wrong?”

“I just feel bad,” Austin said softly. “It seems that I was a dick to her in high school after all.”
