Gigi was right. These assholes could act like Neanderthals sometimes.

Locker room talk was one thing. Talking shit about Gigi was something completely different. And I’d had about enough of it. My blood was fucking boiling.

“I mean, I have never seen tits like that before. And I have been to a number of the best strip clubs this country has to offer,” Trey commented, his hands in front of his chest as he mockingly squeezed the air. He was such a fucking pig.

“Tell me about it. I’m lucky those white jeans were so damn tight, or I would have had an embarrassing tenting situation happening.” Luis laughed as he grabbed the front of his jock.

The idiots all laughed at that. I was ready to strangle them all. “You guys are a bunch of morons,” I said, shaking my head as I taped my knee. What I really wanted to do was tape all of their stupid mouths shut.

Trey peered down at me with an evil grin on his face. “If you don’t want her, Moreau, I’d be more than happy to take your place,” he said, then lowered his voice so only I could hear, “just like I’ll be taking over as captain once you fuck that up, too.” That was about all I could handle of this asshole.

His constant snide threats to me about taking over as captain were one thing.

Talking about Gigi was something else completely.

I lunged up and got in Trey’s face. “Look, I talked to her last night, Gigi’s an okay chick. She wouldn’t be into any of you assholes,” I spouted back, getting more pissed off by the second. Why exactly I was getting so mad, I didn’t know. And that made me even more irate.

“She’s not into guys?” my teammate around the corner asked.

“Aww, damn, she’s into girls?” Luis said, slapping his thigh in the process.

I considered my options here. If they all thought she was gay—which I didn’t know one way or the other—not for sure anyway—everything would run more smoothly.

Life would be a hell of a lot easier if these morons stopped sniffing around her. And really, how would she even find out? “Yeah, she’s into chicks. Do you have a problem with that?” I said, chucking the roll of tape back into my locker.

“Nah, man. That’s cool,” Luis said, sighing while he tied up a skate.

Everyone else grumbled as they returned to what they were doing. And it was a nice friggin’ change.

We watchedthe last bit of the women’s practice and I was surprised by how good they were. Especially Gigi. She played my position and she did it well. There were a few key things she was doing wrong, and she had some bad habits that needed to be coached out of her.

All in all, there was a lot of promise from what I was seeing. Nothing that a little correction and some fine tuning wouldn’t cure.

“Captain, did you see this?” Isaac asked, showing me a picture on his phone.

Someone had posted another photo on social media. Good Lord. This one had me leaning over Gigi while she laid on the lounge chair. Damn it. Why did I think it would be a good thing to remove a feather from her hair?

I should have just left it alone. What had possessed me to get that close to her? Again?

The comments underneath the photo were much like the ones from yesterday. How our kids would be beautiful and that we made the perfect couple.

Hopefully, there was still a slight chance of Zombie Gigi showing up today. Maybe she’d be extra tired from practice? And she wouldn’t care that our faces were once again plastered all over social media?

Truth be told—I would not be upset one bit if feisty Gigi made a return. She was harder to manage but a whole lot more fun to watch.

“Thanks, Isaac, I appreciate the heads-up. I was picking a feather from her hair. But it looks a lot less innocent than that.”

He looked at me and jerked his head before walking back to the dressing room. I assumed to put his phone away. I sighed thinking about what Gigi might say when she saw this latest pic. Her reaction to yesterday’s social media post had surprised me.

That woman had fire in her belly. And she wasn’t afraid to use it on me. So when she wasn’t all that mad about the picture of her against the wall and me leaned into her—I had been a little shocked.

The whistle blew, their scrimmage was over. Most of the players skated over to the bench for their waters before circling the assistant coach in the middle of the ice.

She spoke for a few minutes then left. Gigi took over after that and dismissed the team. Technically, they still had the ice for two more minutes. The hot blonde she hung with the most skated around with her, talking and making another lap probably to cool off.
