Beau’s head snapped to us. “The last person on the face of this earth I want to see right now. Take a hike, Trey,” he said, nodding his head toward the door.

Trey handed the puppy to me with a grin. “I just took him out. He’ll be good for a while.” He swaggered over to Beau. “You able to lock it down? Or do you need to go take a walk?”

A frown the likes I’d never seen before formed on Beau’s face. “Lock what down?”

“You’re pretty fuckin’ angry right now. You need to go for a walk? There’s a lady present,” Trey said, motioning his hand in my direction. I took a moment to catch my breath after what he had just said.

Beau stepped down from the chair, facing off across from Trey. “When have you ever known me to get physical with a woman?”

“Never,” Trey answered instantly. “Also never seen you this mad before, bro. Go take five minutes and come back.”

An evil chuckle flew out of Beau’s mouth. “You’d like that, right? More time for you alone with my girl?”

“I’m not after your girl.”

“You’re after my girl and my spot on the team,” Beau yelled in his face.

Trey took a step back. “I’m trying to push you. You’re acting like a scared little boy out there instead of a fucking captain. Our team needs leadership. There’s no time to stroke egos, Moreau. You won the spot. All I want you to do is fight for it.”

“Get out, Trenton.”

“I’m not leaving until you cool your jets.”

Two of the best-looking men I’d ever met, stood nose to nose, staring each other down.

Beau was the first to move. He retreated back to the chair and again began wrenching on the camera there.

Trey followed. “Give me the screwdriver.”

To my amazement, Beau did as ordered. “Fucking big city asshole can’t even uninstall a camera.”

“Not all of us had the luxury of growing up in Hickville, USA,” Beau said, his voice notably calmer now as he teased Trey.

Had I missed something here? One minute they were ready to pull each other’s heads off and the next they were working together and teasing?

I shook my head and slumped against the door. Men were freaking confusing.

“Done,” Trey said, dumping the camera in Beau’s hand. Beau nodded. I had a feeling that was the closest thing Trey was going to get to a ‘thank you’.

Beau walked over to me, careful of the puppies. “I’d never hurt you. You know that, right?” he croaked, his voice raspy and raw. The way he looked at me and searched my face seemed almost desperate and needy.

“I know, Beau,” I said, staring directly into his eyes, unwavering.

His face softened and he reached his hand around the back of my head. Pulling me to him, he kissed my lips, dipping his tongue between my lips. It was a quick yet effective kiss before he said, “I’m going for a walk. I’ll be back.” With that, he slipped out the door.

Needing to see where he was going, I hurried to the window to watch. Beau went down the stairs quickly, took a few steps in the direction of the pool, then threw the camera into it.

“Oh my gosh, he did not just do that,” I said, letting my chin fall to my chest. What exactly were we supposed to tell Angelique and Marcel? And the producers?

The sound of Trey’s laughter startled me. “I forgot you were here,” I said, glancing behind my shoulder at him.

“G, he’ll be fine.”

“Why’s he so angry? I don’t get it?”

He chuckled again. “Because he’s a little bit scared of being the captain of a top league team and he’s a lot in love with an intelligent, sexy, woman, who’s thirteen years younger than him. And he gets to play this all out not only on the ice once a week, but also in front of millions of viewers.”

I couldn’t tell him that Beau probably didn’t even like me that much, let alone love me. “He’s a great player. I don’t get what he’s worried about. This is nothing he can’t handle.”
