I took a deep breath and knew I had to make my next words count. “You’re my wife. I would do anything for you. I love you.”
“I love you, too. I’ll let you rest. Please, message me, or call me if you need me to come home.”

Then I hung up and rushed to the bathroom.
I startledawake and sat up straight in bed.
Quiet.
No music.
I looked at my phone to see what time it was.
Three o’clock in the morning.
And it was quiet.
A horrible feeling prickled over my skin.
Why was it so quiet?
I jumped out of bed, and every cell in my body protested.
My brain felt about ready to burst inside my skull.
I ran up the stairs as quickly as I could go without falling over.
I hurried to the living room and found it dark.
Except for the light from the TV.
Wes sat in the dark.

“Oh, fuck,” I whispered to myself. My eyes glanced quickly at the screen to see a beautiful, curvy blonde. She was helping a tiny, little girl open a big present wrapped in the pinkest wrapping paper I’d ever seen.
“Aww, Lexi bear, what do you think’s inside?”
