I’d grown up with my mom playing her music around me.

So—yeah.

Happy/sad memories.

Secondly, Jillian had pictures on her walls that drew you in.

I was in more than a few of them. Even when we weren’t on the same team, she and I always kept in touch.

The last couple of years had been more difficult to get together.

She was always busy with her side hustles.

Being an influencer was no joke.

The number of hours she put in creating content, filming, editing, and uploading was insane.

Plus, she also designed and made bikinis—and sold them on her website.

Jillian was well known.

But I knew one day she’d really explode onto the scene.

“It smells so good in here.” I inhaled deeply and let myself relax a bit.

“Thanks. I felt like salmon, I hope that’s okay?”

I smiled at her.

She knew darn well that I loved salmon.

“Your salmon is the best, Jillybean.”

I helped her get everything out of the oven, then we sat down.

“I’m glad you could make it,” Jillian said, and it nearly choked me up. She was one of those people who made you feel instantly at ease. And the fact that she hadn’t given me the cold shoulder meant everything.

“Thanks for the invite. My social calendar’s been a bit bare lately.”

She chewed on a piece of baked asparagus. “I know,” was all she said and nodded her head. “You’re always welcome here.”

“Thanks.”

There was a camera on us. At least for the next couple of hours.

Jillian still had hers installed just like everyone else—except for Gigi and Beau’s, and Trey’s.

I wondered if they’d reinstall Trey’s camera now that we’d broken up.

I felt a wave of fear for him. What if the cameras caught him taking his pills?

My mind went to bad places while I thought about how his addiction would progress over the coming weeks and months.

And how much of that might get caught on film forever and ever.

“Hey, are you okay?” Jillian asked, breaking me out of my scary daydream.

“Yeah, sorry. I spaced out for a minute.”
