No, I’d work on getting the truth out of her. Hopefully, she’d trust me enough one day to tell me what the hell was going on. And why she didn’t kick him to the curb long ago.

Lexi suddenly cut in, and Jillian seemed relieved. “I mean, I like the whole virgin trope, but sometimes I find it a bit unrealistic, you know? I mean let’s face it, some guys are dogs. If she was a virgin and she let him in there, in real life, he’d probably just leave her the next day, anyway. I also had a little trouble suspending disbelief with the fact that he insisted they get married before he’d sleep with her. Who does that?”

I sent my wife a disgusted glare. “Uh, I did? Pfft, I don’t find that hard to believe at all. And, it’s more than realistic. Not all guys are dogs, Lexi. That’s a big generalization, don’t you think?”

Lexi narrowed her eyes at me. “That’s rich coming from someone like you.”

I jerked my head to the side like she’d slapped me. “What’s that supposed to mean?”

Her head shook from side to side. “Come on, Trey. You have a—reputation with women. You tend to love ‘em and leave ‘em quite regularly.”

What the fuck was she saying?I stood up, feeling more than a little stunned at her words. “Not with you, I don’t. I didn’t sleep with you until our wedding night.”

Lexi stood as well, hands on her hips—looking just as stubborn as could be. “Our wedding night was three hours after we met!”

I took a few steps closer. “Yeah, well maybe that’s because I wanted to marry you before I touched you!”

Her arms fell from her hips, and she stared at me.

Yeah.

That had gotten to her.

Maybe I’d finally dug through the stone wall she’d erected around her heart.

The rest of the room was dead silent. I didn’t dare move one muscle.

A few seconds later, she rushed into my arms and pulled my head down.

When her lips hit mine—I was a fucking goner. I wrapped my arms around her and held her body to mine.

She opened for me, and our tongues touched for the first time in what felt like forever. “Fuck, I missed your mouth,” I said, holding her head to mine as we kissed like some kind of ravenous beasts.

I couldn’t get enough of her.

My hands began a slow, wonderful descent to that perfect ass I’d been eyeing up the entire night.

That was when I heard a few people clearing their throats.

“Shit,” I said into her mouth, “we have an audience.”

Lexi moved her head back slightly, then touched her lips to my ear and whispered, “Maybe we should leave.”

She didn’t have to ask twice. I leaned back and smiled at her.

“Great book club, everyone. Thanks for the invite, Jillian.” I clutched hard onto Lexi’s hand and pulled her behind me.
