He spoke louder. “You need to go.” His arms shot out to the side. “I don’t. I’ll stay here and babysit—Captain Bender.”

Oh, gosh.

That actually sounded—great.

Except for the fact that I’d have one addict babysitting another.

Dammit.

“Yeah, no thanks,” I told him. “I’ll deal with this on my own.”

He rolled his eyes and sighed. “Why won’t you let me help you? I can handle it.”

I laughed. “Yeah, the blind leading the blind. What could possibly go wrong?”

He paced in a circle, his hand rubbing the back of his head. Finally, he faced off with me. “You don’t have much of a choice. If I stay, at least someone is here to clean up after him.”

I immediately answered back. “And who’s here to clean up after you?”

His face grew angrier, and he clenched his teeth together. “I’m better than no one. Call, video chat—whatever the fuck you want to do. You know I’ll answer. Check up on us. At least you’ll be able to play.”

Crap.

This was tempting.

It was also a very, very, very bad idea.

And I knew it.

Driving away from home,I peered into my rearview mirror.

Trey stood there, in the cold, watching me drive away in the rental car.

He’d hugged me before I left, and told me to have a safe trip.

Then he’d kissed me.

A sweet, unassuming kiss that had quickly turned deeper.

And yummier.

And Heaven help me—I melted into him.

“I love you,” he’d said, then kissed me again, his arms holding me tight to him.

And, like a fool, I answered him back, “I love you, too. Please, be careful.”

He leaned his forehead on mine. “I’ve got everything handled. All you have to worry about is kicking ass on the ice. Good luck, sweetheart.”

Then, I’d kissed him again—because it was too hard not to.

Even in the cold, morning air, I could still feel the heat from his lips on mine.

I turned onto the main road. There was no traffic at all out here at this time of the morning.

I breathed a sigh of relief knowing I’d make my flight on time.

But at what cost? The jury was still out on that one.
