‘Christmas shopping,’ I explain. ‘It’s a tradition. We try to do at least one day together every year. Get our hair done, you know, all that kind of thing.’

‘That sounds...sweet.’

I pull a face, but at the same time I’m sort of looking forward to it. ‘It is actually kind of nice. Away from Dad and Simon, we seem to have an easier time.’

He lifts a hand to my hair. ‘What will you get done?’

I bite down on my lip. ‘Maybe a yellow Mohawk?’

He grins. ‘I was thinking more blue. Dreadlocks?’

‘Ooh, tempting.’

‘You’d suit dreadlocks.’

‘Would I?’

‘Hell, yeah.’

I laugh. ‘Thanks for the suggestion. I’ll take it under advisement.’

‘You do that.’

He lifts his hands to my face and runs them through my hair. It cascades around my face like a waterfall. ‘Don’t change it. This suits you.’

‘This? This is the I’ve-been-too-busy-to-sleep style I’ve been rocking for about fifteen months...’

‘I like it. I like the way it falls around your face when you’re on top of me. I like the way it’s long enough for me to grab hold of while I’m inside you. I like watching it fall down your back, like a black waterfall, as I thrust into you.’

I shiver at the vivid imagery his erotic words evoke. ‘You know that asking me to keep it like this makes me all the more likely to change it?’

‘Because you’re contrary?’

‘Because I only listen to my own good judgement.’ I wink. ‘Though you’re definitely currying favour with me.’

‘How am I doing that?’

‘By giving me more orgasms than I knew possible in a single night?’

‘Ah. That old chestnut.’ His grin, though, is pure ego. Damn it, I hadn’t intended to enlarge that but I’m honest to a fault and always have been. I lean forward and kiss his lips hastily.

‘I have to go.’

‘Stay.’

I shake my head, but his request flatters and pleases me in a way that should, perhaps, serve as a warning. Maybe he’s not the only one whose ego’s getting stretched out by this.

‘I can’t.’ I go to pull away from him but he holds me where I am.

‘Why not?’

‘Because I don’t have any clothes, for one. Or a toothbrush.’

‘I have spare toothbrushes.’

‘Clothes?’

‘You were wearing clothes when you arrived, weren’t you?’
