“Yes.” Her breath was laboured; her skin tingling.

“So meaningless kisses are okay in your book?” He asked, and before she could answer, or guess his intentions, he lowered his raven dark head and took complete possession of her lips.

He was a powerful man and his kiss conveyed his strength and control. His lips were forceful, his tongue demand

ing. He let go of her wrist, and dropped his hands to his side, so that the only part of them that was touching was their mouths. Each exploring the other, tasting, wanting, needing. She moaned, low in her throat, and gave up trying to fight what was happening between them. She lifted her fingers and ran them through his thick hair, pulling his head closer, making sure he didn’t break the contact.

He did though. All too soon. He tore himself away, and stepped backwards, as though she’d bitten him. He wiped a hand across his eyes, and that hand was shaking a little. He turned his back to her, so that she wouldn’t see the proof of just how much their kiss had moved him. His body was alert with desire; his arousal was demanding satisfaction.

Mikey was lost. She gripped the curved banister for support, simply to stop her knees from giving way beneath her. “What… what was that?” Was that her voice? So husky and breathless?

Loucas stared at her reflection in the window in front of him. He wanted to scoop her up and carry her to his bedroom. He wanted to slake his needs with her, and remove any thoughts of the cowboy, or any other man she’d ever been kissed by, out of her mind forever. He wanted to mark her soul with his, so that no one would ever turn her head again. He wanted to possess her completely.

“A mistake,” he ground out, cursing his own weakness for beautiful women. Falling for his nephew’s therapist was a foolish move. Loucas Aleksandros could have his pick of women. He’d never been without a date for long. He should be focussing his attention on someone removed from his domestic situation. Not a woman in his employ, who was vital to his charge’s recovery.

“A mistake,” she repeated, feeling blindsided for the second time that night. First, there’d been Bobby’s unwanted attentions, and then Loucas’s highly wanted ones. Only he didn’t want her. He didn’t want their kiss to have happened. He couldn’t make it any clearer that he regretted what he’d done. Her emotions were careening out of control after the last twenty four hours.

“Yes,” he snapped. “You speak English, right? A mistake. As in, wrong. As in, shouldn’t have happened.”

Tears sprung to her eyes and she spun away. Somehow, she ran up the stairs, but the sob was heavy in her throat. It broke loose as she reached the landing, but she smothered it with her hand. Her room was at the end of the hallway. She just had to make it down the corridor and then she could give into the maelstrom of emotions that were chewing her up.

She pushed into her room, and sank gratefully against the door as it closed. Only it stuck at the last minute. With tears slowly trickling down her cheeks, she looked down, to find the point of obstruction. A foot. An unmistakably male foot.

Mikey wrenched the door open. And through her tears, she glared up at the man who’d just been driving her body wild moments earlier. “What do you want? More casual kisses? Because, I can assure you, I’m all out.”

Loucas looked down the corridor. “I need to speak to you.”

“Why?” She resolutely held the door in place. “To hurl more insults at me? I can do without that.”

“I did not mean to insult you, Arnaki. I would prefer to explain in the privacy of your room.”

“You’re not coming in here.” She shook her head fiercely.

“Fine.” He reached for the hand that was holding the door open and picked her fingers loose. He held her hand in his. “Come and talk to me here, then, if you’re worried I won’t be able to be in your bedroom without wanting to seduce you.”

Actually, if Mikey were honest, it was the other way around. Despite the offence he’d caused her, she still desperately wanted him. Which was all the more reason she couldn’t invite him into her room.

She followed him back along the corridor, and up another flight of stairs. He looked at her thoughtfully, taking in her tear ravaged face and puffy pink eyes, as he shouldered open the door to his office. He moved towards his desk, intending to offer her a seat, but she spoke before he could do so.

Mikey forced back another sob. “What did you want to talk to me about, Loucas? I’m tired. I have to be up early tomorrow. Can you make it quick?” Her voice broke on the last word, and he swore.

He held her hand up to his heart, pressing both of his hands around it. “Can you really be so sweet?” He marvelled, slowly, rhythmically rubbing his thumb over her palm.

“I don’t know what you’re asking.”

“Mikey,” he sounded pained. His voice was torn. “Are you…” he cleared his throat. “Are you a virgin?”

She swallowed past the lump of surprise, as she shook her head slowly from side to side. She wasn’t sure why she answered him, but she did.

Loucas expelled a breath. “I should be glad to hear it, and yet strangely, I’m not.”

It was a cryptic statement. “What do you mean?” Mikey asked, pulling her hand from his and wrapping them around her waist.

Loucas traced a tear with the tip of his finger, and as it reached her chin, he leaned forward and kissed it. “Christo, Mikey. You’re too sweet to get involved with someone like me.” He had kissed her again. It was a mistake. He wanted more. Just one more kiss, he promised himself, lowering his mouth and nipping the sensitive flesh at the base of her neck. One more kiss and then he’d stop.

“And what is wrong with you?” She asked, her voice a high-pitched copy of its usual self.

“The day you came to confront me in my office, you said that you’d heard I was ruthless. And I am. I am a ruthless bastard, Mikey. You would be wise to run a mile from me.”
