Her figure was almost impossible to sheathe in a dress. She was no clothes horse. Her curves were too pronounced. Dresses were too tight

on the breasts and butt, and too loose in the midsection.

Still. It was a thing of beauty. Mikey ran her fingers wistfully over the soft fabric, wishing that she could wear it.

It wouldn’t hurt to try it. The tag had already been removed, so it probably couldn’t be returned. Besides, it wasn’t as though Loucas would go bankrupt if one dress were wasted.

She stripped out of her robe quickly and held the dress against her naked body. It was truly a piece of art. Wide straps dipped into a sweet heart neckline that was lightly embroidered with a shimmering thread. The dress tucked in at the waist and then flared out in a chiffon skirt that reached to the floor at the back, and the knees at the front.

She laid the dress back on the bed, and selected underwear that would work with the dress. Then, carefully, she slipped it on over her head.

It fit like a glove.

How in the world had Loucas been able to organise a dress for her? She thought of her brothers, and the one time she’d taken Rick shopping with her. He’d wandered up and down the aisles, hands stuffed in his pockets, eyes skittering about because he didn’t know where to look.

She couldn’t help the smile that spread across her face. Not only was the dress a perfect fit, it was a perfect color. Her fingers reached for the card again, and she ran her finger over the writing with a sigh.

She still had almost an hour to kill before the time their date was due to commence, and she couldn’t wait to see him. But she had to wait. So she wasted time however she could. Her hair, she assembled into a loose knot on the top of her head. Her face, which she rarely made up, she added some mascara and blush too, and a hint of lipstick. Then, with still more time to wait, she wrote some emails to her family back home. It was hard to know what to say. All she could think about was Loucas. Then, she remembered Andrew and his breakthrough and she was able to tell them, with a feeling of complete reluctance, that she would likely be returning home in a matter of days.

Nisi Ourano was paradise. The man who owned the villa was a dream come to life. And Andrew was a little child who had taken possession of her heart with his sweet eyes and deep grief. Even Bobby would be a wrench to leave. She’d loved their runs together, and before he’d become so strangely romantic, she’d had fun just hanging out with him.. The landscape itself – the long stretches of pristine beaches, the clear water, the warm sun, the mix of arid fields sparsely covered with grazing goats contrasted with the coastal gardens that were overgrown with lush greenery and vibrant, fragrant blooms. Even though she loved Ventura, and thought of it as home, she knew she’d be leaving a part of herself behind in Greece.

Finally, a minute before six o’clock, she slipped her feet into the only pair of heels she’d brought – a pair of sand colored wedge heels – and made her way down the elegant stair case.

It felt strange being in the villa whilst so dressed up. This was the place she’d loafed about in her shorts and oversized t-shirts, when it was so much more important to make Andrew feel comfortable than it was to care how she looked.

The stairs opened into a large entrance foyer, and beyond it was the formal lounge area. A low wolf-whistle made her turn around, slowly, with her heart in her throat.

Bobby stood, and walked into the foyer. “You look...wow. What’s the occasion?”

Wishing she had some pockets of her own she could stuff her hands into, she gave him a lopsided, apologetic smile. “Dinner with, um, Loucas.”

He seemed to be weighing up what he was going to say next. “He’s a lucky man.”

The doorbell rang. Mikey looked around. The housekeeper was nowhere to be seen. Bobby looked just as baffled, but he crossed the foyer and pulled the door inwards.

Mikey gasped inaudibly when she saw Loucas. He was dressed in a navy suit, with a crisp white shirt open at the neck, gold and black gemstone cuff links. His hair was styled back from his face. He looked indescribably handsome.

His eyes moved past Bobby as though he didn’t exist, and landed on Mikey. His expression glowed with possession and fire. Like a panther with his prey locked in sight, he moved across the room, his eyes unable to leave her face.

Why wasn’t he saying anything? Her eyes searched his face. Anxiety was making her quiver. “What? You don’t like it?”

He leaned his head down and kissed her neck. Then whispered in her ear, “Like it? I’m just working out how the hell I’m going to be able to resist ripping it off you.”

Her eyes fluttered up at him. “I don’t wear dresses often,” she murmured. A banal comment. Their eyes and bodies were doing all the speaking that was required.

“You should. This suits you. Very much.” He straightened.

“Why were you ringing the bell?” She murmured. His warmth was spreading through her.

“This is a date. I wanted it to feel like one. Are you ready?”

Wordlessly, she nodded. Loucas laced his fingers through hers and moved them towards the door.

“Have fun.” Bobby said to Mikey.

She gave him a wave of farewell, too happy to feel guilty for hurting her friend.

The Roadster was waiting for them. She ran her hand over its exposed top, lovingly feeling the smooth, heavy metal beneath her palm. “You remembered.”
