I graciously take it and drink it so quickly, I cough, nearly choking on it. “Thank you.”

He sighs as he grabs the back of his neck. “When was the last time you ate?”

Surprised, my eyes widen as I stare at him. “It’s been a few days,” I whisper. Embarrassment and shame wash over me as I quickly wipe a tear off my cheek.

“I was going to order a burger. Do you like burgers?” he asks. Unsure what the hell is going on I nod. “There are clean towels in the bathroom, so go take a shower. The burgers will be here when you get out.”

I stand up as he turns his back to me. I trust no one. I fear everyone. So, I can’t stop myself from calling his name. “Hayden.”

He turns, shaking his head. “It’s Cash.”

Last name only, alright. “Cash, are you going to kill me?”

“Go shower, Leslie. Food will be here soon.”

He picks up the phone and orders our food. Confused, but grateful, I grab my bag and go into the bathroom. I lock the door, turn on the shower, and as my dirty clothes fall to the floor, so do my tears. I’m not sure if he believes me or if he is just allowing me a little more time. There is a part of me that is screaming to fight and run. But there is another part of me, a bigger part, that is saying, hear him out.

I don’t trust him. I’m terrified of him. However, I think I might need him.

Chapter 5

Cash

The shower turns on as I sit down in the small chair beside the bed. I scrub my face, letting out a groan. I fucking believe her.

Her version of the situation makes a hell of a lot more sense. Plus, she didn’t mention anything about the warehouse, which means she doesn’t even know about it. The paperwork does, in fact, say that Vincent Dalo is the one who contacted Rogue.

She’s absolutely right that they all said it was a power play. That she wanted in the Dalo family so badly that she took the situation into her own hands. They hired me because that piece of shit Vincent knows she’s innocent. He doesn’t want to kill an innocent woman, so like the pussy he is, he put it on someone else.

The problem is, if I walk away and leave her here, she’ll be killed. Someone from the Greco family will make sure of it. She’s in trouble and I’m sure as hell not going to let an innocent woman die on my watch. I’ll need to figure some shit out, but I do know one thing for sure; she needs to get the hell out of this town.

A knock on the door has me snapping out of my thoughts. I answer it and allow the room service attendant to wheel in the cart of food. I slip him some cash and he leaves. I wasn’t sure exactly what she liked, so I ordered a few different things to go with the burgers. I could tell almost immediately that she hasn’t eaten in a while. She looked much skinnier than the photo I have, and she clearly hadn’t showered in a while. She looks exhausted, scared, and desperate, but those green eyes still held that innocence.

This is the first time I haven’t completed a job. I’m going to need to contact Rogue, but not tonight. Tonight, I am going to allow Leslie to feel something she hasn’t in a long time...safe.

I hear the shower turn off and it dawns on me that she doesn’t have any clean clothes. I grab a t-shirt and pair of boxers out of my suitcase and knock on the door.

“Umm, hold on,” she rushes out.

“I have some clean clothes for you. They’ll be huge on you, but they’re clean. I’ll leave them by the door, just grab them,” I say, placing them down.

I run my hand down my mouth as I walk away to give her privacy. I’ve never done anything like this. Any woman that has been in a hotel room with me, has been there for one thing only. There’s typically no small talk, no getting to know each other, no emotions. It’s all about pleasure.

Now, I’ve got a woman in my room who lets the emotions pour out of her and I’m not used to it. Seeing her cry was fucking hard for me. Part of me wanted to wrap my arms around her to comfort her, and the other part wanted to tell her to stop.

The bathroom door opens, and I spin around. Seeing her in my t-shirt almost makes me laugh. It hangs down to her knees and I can only imagine how the boxers fit. She looks more like the picture now. When a small smile hits her lips, I tense. Her green eyes are shining, her long, wet hair is hanging down her back, and her creamy skin looks renewed. Damn, she’s beautiful.

“Thanks for the clothes. They’re a little big, but it’s nice to have something clean to wear,” she says, walking toward me.

I clear my throat and nod. “Food is here. I ordered a bunch of different things, wasn’t sure what you liked.”

I lift my chin to let her know she should sit down at the small dinette set in the room. She understands and sits down. I open the trays of food and watch her eyes widen as she takes it all in. It pisses me off that she’s this hungry. She shouldn’t have been suffering this way.

“Do you like anything?”

She lifts her eyes to me and nods. “It all looks amazing,” she whispers.
