“Tyler, I am very upset with you. I have been asking you to come home for weeks now and I have to find out from your father that you haven’t because you are dating someone.”
“Mom.” I try to interrupt her but she talks right over me.
“Do you know how hurtful that is? Why would you tell him and not me? Why the hell haven’t we met her yet?” I laugh because that’s my mom. When she is annoyed, she just rambles. Maddie is looking at me with curiosity on her face. Her head is tilted and she is taking it all in.
“Mom, I’m sorry alright. I didn’t tell you because I knew you would get overly excited and I wasn’t sure what to make of it.” I’m trying to explain it without Maddie realizing I’m talking about her. “I promise I will come home for dinner soon.”
“Not good enough anymore, Tyler. You are my only child and I miss you. Now, I want you to bring your girlfriend with you. When will that be tonight, tomorrow or next weekend?” Shit, she wants me to bring Maddie. I would love for them all to meet, but I’m not sure how she would feel about it. She obviously has issues with her own family; I don’t know how she would feel about hanging out with mine. “Tyler!”
“Sorry, Mom. Hey, can I call you back in a few minutes? I’ll let you know then.”
“Why would you need to call me back, oh wait, are you with her right now? Oh my God, she’s beautiful isn’t she? What’s her name? What does she do for a living? Oh my goodness, get off the phone that is so rude. Call me back.” She hangs up without even waiting for me to say anything. I laugh and hang up the phone.
“So, you really are close to your parents aren’t you?” I gather up our trash and look up at her.
“I told you I was.” I throw away the garbage and walk back over to her. She is standing waiting for me. We walk out of the deli and head toward Candy.
“I know you told me, but I just saw it and it was pretty cool.” I look over at her and grin.
“Pretty cool, huh? Well, I’ll be honest with you. That phone call was about you.” She stops short and whips her head toward me.
“What? Why would she call about me?” I grab her hand and pull her to start walking again.
“My dad has a big fucking mouth and told her I had a girlfriend. She’s pissed now because I haven’t been home and I didn’t tell her about you.”
“So what she doesn’t like the idea of you dating?” The laugh just bursts out of me.
“Maddie, my mom has been trying to get me to date for years. She is pissed because she had to hear it from my dad.” We make it to Candy, I unlock her, and we get it. I don’t start her right away and turn to continue talking to her. “Thing is, Maddie, they want me to go home for dinner this weekend.”
“Well go home for dinner you should see your parents, Young.” Here goes nothing.
“They want me to bring you.” She slowly turns her head and has wide eyes.
“What?”
“They want to meet you, so my mom invited you to dinner. Would you like to go with me tomorrow for dinner?” Her leg starts bouncing and I place my hand on it.
“I don’t know, Young. I’ve never met anyone’s parents before. I don’t know how to act.”
“What the hell do you mean you don’t know how to act? You act like yourself. You don’t need to pretend to be anyone else.” It is strange to me that she would say something like that. Why the fuck would someone act like someone they aren’t? “I want you to come, Maddie. I want you to meet them and I sure as fuck want them to meet you.” She looks over at me, takes a deep breath, and grins.
“Alright, Young. I’ll go I want to meet them too. I swear to God, it had better not end up like Meet the Parents or I will kick your fucking ass.” I laugh as I start Candy, but Maddie is looking at me completely serious.
We get home and everyone decides we should go to the bar tonight. I’m totally down for it. I called my mom and told her we would be there tomorrow. She actually squealed in my ear. The girls are eating at their place tonight, so we ordered pizza. We are standing in the kitchen eating.
“Young, what’s going on with you and Maddie? You guys have sex yet?” I take another bite of pizza and look over at Campbell. I decide to answer him even though my mouth is full.
“Nope. We are still working on other shit.”
“I can’t believe you guys have gone so long. I mean good for you but I’m just surprised.” No one is as surprised as I am. My dick is so fucking sick of my hand.
“Believe me we are not far away from having sex, you guys might want to rinse that shower again before you get in by the way.” I take another bite of pizza and lift my shoulders when they both look at me. “What? We aren’t having sex, doesn’t mean my dick doesn’t want attention.”
“Too much information, Young. Fuck.” Campbell throws his plate in the sink and goes off to his room.
“Should I tell him I jerked off on the couch yesterday or no?” Dick laughs as he makes his way to his room. I guess not.
We’ve been at the bar for a while. I definitely needed to come out tonight and drink. I’m nervous to meet Young’s parents tomorrow. There was just something about the way he was talking to his mom that made me want to meet them. I want to see what they look like, where they live and how they interact as a real family. I never had that. I told the girls I was meeting them and of course, they got all excited. I told them that I’m nervous and they said that is normal, so I have to believe that it is.
