“Honey,” Ness said warily as she touched her mate’s arm.

I didn’t like the way that Ryder watched Maddox. This was the same man who’d killed his own father. Ryder wanted to start his own family, soon. If Maddox couldn’t control himself, then he was a threat to the Pack and the next generation of shifters.

Without thinking, I shoved Maddox away from myself and told him to run. I didn’t even have to put a command into my voice. He turned and bolted through the kitchen. The back door was no obstacle to a shifter. He burst through it like it was made of paper.

“Addie!” Ryder shouted at me.

I shot to my feet and spun, throwing my arms out to block Ryder’s way as he stormed across the room. He didn’t shove through me, though he did spare a moment to glare down at me before looking to the open back door once more.

“What is wrong with you willful women?” he growled.

There was the unmistakable hiss of a can being opened. Vi chuckled. “We make fate our bitch.”

She raised her energy drink in salute before taking a big chug from it. I always admired her gumption. It seemed that it was rubbing off on me as I stood my ground in front of the local Pack Alpha.
