“It’s too late to change your mind now anyway,” Kas interjects. “Thanks to you, we’re all grown up and have a house. That shit is binding.”

Grinning, I reply, “Welcome to adulthood. Now, let’s leave my apartment of solitude.” As always, I beam when I call it that.

I know that the other two didn’t get the connection until Kas started spewing a lot of Superman and DC Comics references. Even though comic book references are wasted on Coen and Alec, they love watching me and Kas go toe to toe to outdo each other in cheesy puns and superhero references.

In the immortal words of Coen, when me and Kas get going, we’re punstoppable!

After leaving the apartment for the last time, we all file into Kas’ new SUV—a gift from Shannon. It turns out that after Kas’ dad disappeared, his mom received a large sum of money as part of his estate. The money was meant to be spent on Kas and Marilyn. Instead, the money sat in Shannon’s account. Blinded by grief, heartache, and anger, she wasn’t the best mother for so many years, something she’s making amends for now. Starting with a shiny car for Kas and a townhouse not too far from us for herself and Marilyn.

Kas’ relationship with his mom isn’t perfect by any means, but it’s getting better. I think it helps that Marilyn, Shannon, Nina, and I cook together once a week. Usually, it’s on Sundays that we go all out, cooking, baking, you name it. It’s a lot of fun, and I love getting closer to my men’s families. I’m contemplating bringing Jewell into it since she’ll be here for the entire weekend. Even though it doesn’t seem like it would be her thing, I bet she’d still enjoy it.

While Kas weaves in and out of traffic, I rest my head on Coen’s shoulder and close my eyes. Even though it’s been six months, I can’t quite believe that this is my life now. That they’re mine and that I get to keep them. It’s everything I would have wished for if I’d known this is what love and happiness feel like.
