She looks so startled as we each call her by our chosen nickname for her.

“We know we can’t all marry you. So instead of asking for what we cannot have, we want to know if you’ll be ours forever?” We ask in unison, watching when tears roll down her cheeks, and she nods vigorously.

“Yes, I already said yes. I’m already yours.” The smile on her face drops as she realizes her mistake. “I mean—”

“How many times have you asked my daughter?” Roger asks, sounding as though he’s trying hard not to laugh.

“They asked her before they came here,” Marilyn reveals before her eyes widen and she clasps her hand over her mouth.

My mom winks at me. “Yes, they wanted it to be a private moment, but we had to promise not to let on that we already knew.”

“So everyone already knew?” Alec asks, looking like he can’t believe it.

When everyone nods and says, “Yes,” there’s no longer a point in us kneeling here.

“Don’t be upset,” Mia whispers. “The baby and I couldn’t wait to share the news of being engaged to the three of you.”

“There’s nothing to be upset about, sweets. You said yes, and we get to keep you for the rest of our lives.”
