The accusation alone had brought a lot of nasty looks from the team.
And the stink of the investigation alone had made him a pariah.
A hard wind blew across the desert and Leo felt the sting as particles of dirt collided with his skin.
It felt like sandpaper.
Hurt like hell.
He was good with that.
At least he knew he could still feel pain.
His heart was cold.
Dead.
He huffed at himself.
That wasn’t the truth.
If it was dead, he wouldn’t feel the deep abiding hate he felt for the woman who’d ripped his life apart.

Leo shut his eyes to push her out of his thoughts, but the darkness behind his eyelids only made it worse.

He could hear her breathing: deep, heavy breaths.
He could feel her arms around his neck, tightening as she rode him on his dining room chair.
