He hugged her close, dipping his face to hum Billy Joel’s “Allentown” into the slope of her neck

“Does that mean you’re in?” he asked, nipping at her throat.

“I’m in.”

He lifted her up, grinning widely. “You and me, doing it for real this time. Dates and fights and make-up sex and movie nights on the couch and brunches at your parents’ house—”

“Do they know about this?”

“Oh yeah.” He put her down, waving his hand behind him as if they were all there. “They all know. Even your girls. I got Shelley to give me their numbers. They helped me plan this, but Gemma gave me a lot of shit.”

She bit back a smile, imagining it all, but with so much emotion in only a few minutes, it all came crashing down in a flood of tears.

She sniffed. “I never thought we could be together. I didn’t think we could be a reality.”

“I’m here now, and I’m not going anywhere.” Then he glanced at the time on his phone and sucked in a breath. “Except to pick up Taco from Fitz’s house. He’ll start to rip things apart if he’s separated from me too long.”

“I know how he feels,” she joked, fixing her glasses on her nose.

He smiled at her, and she returned it with one that just about split her face in two. He bent down to pick up her bags. “Let’s get out of here. We have our whole lives to get started on.”
