Laney snorted a laugh.

Bronte moaned. “I thought it wasn’t an intervention.”

“You remember how afraid I was when Jason asked me to move in with him?” Gem said, and Bronte recalled how their relationship progressed so fast Gem had tried to torpedo the whole thing because she was so afraid, especially when she got pregnant. “But at some point, you have to make a decision. It’s the indecision that kills you.”

Bronte nodded. Gem did have a good point. All this in-between, missed calls, text-only communication wasn’t helping the matter any.

“You have to shit or get off the pot,” Laney said helpfully with a big grin, and Sam only shook her head, hiding her smile behind another bite of yogurt.

“Hey, when’s your spring break?” Shelley asked.

Bronte tipped her head back to her sister. “End of March, why?”

“Did you know you can get a nonstop flight to Los Angeles for, like, four hundred bucks?”

Laney gasped at Shelley’s suggestion. “Yes, you should go to LA!”

“What? No.”

Gem nodded as Sam said, “It would get you your answer.”

“I think you should go,” Laney told her. “You need to go see him in person.”

“But no pressure,” Sam said.

“Yeah, no pressure,” Laney agreed.

“Although I did just buy you a ticket.”

“You what?” Bronte sat up, her wine sloshing over the rim of her glass.

Shelley showed her sister the receipt for her purchase on her phone. “You should be getting the email with the ticket momentarily.”

Bronte grabbed Shelley’s phone in disbelief. “You didn’t.”

Gem cackled. “I love it!”
