Disappointment rang in his voice like the bottom note of an organ at church, resonating deep within the cavity of my chest.

“I don’t know,” I admitted. “I’m just struggling to figure out all the rules.”

Roarke’s strong hand slid into mine. “Come inside, Milly, and I’ll put on some tea.”

I pulled my hand away. “No thank you.” For the first time in my life, I didn’t think tea would help. I chuckled under my breath, wondering what my mother would think.

“Then how about some coffee while we talk this out?”

I finally turned to face him, taking in his ruffled dark hair and sexy scruff. And if I were being honest, I wanted to jump into his arms and crush my mouth to his. I didn’t want coffee or any other beverage. I only wanted to drink him in, but I still had questions. So denying myself another dream, I followed him back inside.

“Tea sounds great,” I stated flatly.
