I spent the day meditating, cooking, and playing with Jenks. Tonight was the new moon. While most people associated witches and their magic with the full moon instead, the dark moon offered a chance for a fresh start and to set new intentions, which was exactly what I planned to do.

Retrieving last month’s moon water from the fridge, I added it to my bath. Steam rose in billowing wafts, the scent of mugwort, lavender, and patchouli oil filling the small room. The essential oils would boost my dream work, and the ritual bath would prepare my mind and body for the journey ahead. Sliding into the clawfoot tub, I set my intention as one of openness and magic and hoped the goddess would hear my plea. Water enveloped me, wrapping me in a cocoon as I sank below the surface, its fragrant warmth covering me from the tips of my toes to just under my chin.

I let myself drift off mentally, welcoming the goddess and any message she might have. I thought back over the past few months and everything that had happened with the Weaver so far, focusing on my intention to join him now. This was something I wanted, and my magic had proved strong enough so far, having called his attention to me in the first place.

Goddess of night, hear me now. I cleanse my body as part of our vow. Wash away all fear and doubt as I prepare to call on you, your faithful devout.

I inhaled deeply, welcoming the relaxing state of my ritual bath. With one hand between my legs and the other resting across my breasts, I drew the triangle of the sacred feminine, alternating positions as my hands slid up and down and across my skin.

“Maiden, Mother, Crone. Maiden, Mother, Crone.” I repeated the call until my breasts heaved and goose bumps dotted my skin.

The goddess was here.

I pulled the plug, letting my doubts and fears swirl down the drain.

Striding to the back porch, I stood skyclad with my arms raised to the heavens above.

“Goddess, I ask that you hear my plea, shining your blessings down upon me. Grant me the magic I need to transform while maintaining my connection to all that’s been born. From my ancestors flows the magic in me, protected and rooted so completely. This new phase is welcome and has begun. Show me your will, and it shall be done.”

A warm breeze blew across my body as the goddess’s words penetrated my mind.

“At the darkest time of night, there is a turning point. From darkness to light. From death to life. A journey completed, and a new journey begins. Behold! I am the Lady of Darkness, mother and grandmother. Hail to the Crone! Old yet young, Mother darksome and divine. As the wheel turns, we see birth, death, and rebirth and know from this that every end is a beginning. Maiden, Mother, Crone, I am all these and more. Whenever you have need, call upon me, and I will be there. I abide within you even at the darkest times. When there seems no single spark to warm you, I am she who is at the beginning and at the end of all time. Harm none and love all life. So mote it be.”

“So mote it be,” I repeated aloud as three chimes sounded in the back of my head. I knew now my magic was ready for the connection to be made.

Jenks followed me straight to bed, snuggling in as I flicked my wrist to stoke the fire again. It warmed my nakedness, and I squirmed beneath the blankets, preparing for sleep. Welcoming the goddess back into my heart, I was ready to meet Roarke and deliver my answer once and for all.
