She picked up my hand, giving it a squeeze. “Is this about that friend that came to visit?” She guessed.

I nodded my head, not wanting to face the truth.

“Oh, sweetie. Did you guys break up?”

“I’m not sure if we were ever truly together,” I blurted out.

Keelyn stiffened. “Did he hurt you? Take advantage of you?”

Gasping past my sobs, I answered brokenly, “No… Nothing… like that. I… wanted him. But… I can’t—” I couldn’t push out the rest of the words, dropping my head into my hands.

“Oh, Milly.” She rubbed a motherly hand down my back. “We’ve all been there—wanting someone we can’t have. You’ll be okay, honey. You’ll find someone else the minute you’re not looking. At the grocery store or one of your farmers markets. Heck… you could even meet someone right here.”

I lifted my head and wiped my eyes. She had no idea, but Keelyn just set me on my new life’s purpose.

I would break this damn curse. Then Roarke and I could be together in the real world, despite his new queen.
