Scorned by a Weaver when he chose her sister instead, Agitha cursed their line throughout time, but with this, you can set things right if that’s what you choose.

I can’t imagine all you’ve gone through since I’ve been gone, but know that if you follow your heart, your head will find a way.

Trust yourself, Milly, and know I believe in you. I love you so much, and all I want is for you to be happy.

As I stared at the brittle pages, my tears threatened to ruin the dark-blue ink. Though there was more to read, I closed the book, learning all I needed to know for now.

Keelyn cleared her throat, bringing me back to myself. “Milly, if you’re ready and willing, we can stop the drain on your magic.”

I thought back to all the time Mom and I had spent together in the garden—me using my magic to nurture the soil and plants and Mama always eager to share her lessons with me. But all the while, I never once saw her use actual magic herself.

“She chose to give it all away?” I wiped my cheeks with the back of my hand.

Keelyn knelt in front of me. “Yes, sweetie, she did. And not because of any curse or because she wasn’t a powerful witch but because she knew her own heart and wanted nothing more than to raise a family with your dad.”

I thought about what that meant and the timeline of it all. If the Atwoods were the Weavers’ designated queens, that meant at least three of my ancestors could have possibly been Roarke’s. He’d been the Weaver for a hundred and seventy-five years and never once found his partner… until me.

I wondered if he met my mom and she chose to walk away or if she made her choice before she ever saw him in her dreams. From the tone of her words in the book, it seemed I was the first Atwood who’d been kept in the dark. But that was okay. I forgave her.

I turned to Keelyn. “What do I have to do to get my magic back?”

I still wasn’t interested in being Roarke’s Queen of Nightmares, but I needed access to my inherent magic if I was going to face Isabelle and break this damn curse once and for all.
