We arrived in the city,and I spent the afternoon meeting with John and Adam Pierce to go over the latest news on the investors who had joined once Ken Hanson made it known that he had partnered with Astra to create the consortium. Apparently, he had a lot of people interested in getting a piece of the future with us and before we knew it, the consortium had grown and doubled the initial investment dollars.
The deal was perhaps the biggest in the history of the aerospace industry outside the initial investments in the Apollo mission.
It was an exciting time to be involved in the industry and I felt it would be my legacy. From the time I was just a boy and my father and mother had given me my first telescope, I had my eyes on the stars and had wanted to go out into space.
I wouldn’t be going there any time soon — I had Alexa and Leif here on Earth to keep my feet on solid ground — but one day, maybe I would. Until then, I could be part of building the industry that would eventually go to space and make it part of humanity’s future.
